The University of Minnesota will not change its values “for the sake of a bowl game,” school President Eric Kaler said Friday. His statement, which emphasized his commitment to campus safety and respect for all students, intensified the standoff between school leaders and football players that is putting the Gophers’ commitment to the Dec. 27 Holiday Bowl at risk.

The U’s football players are boycotting all team activities, demanding 10 teammates suspended from the team in the latest fallout from a sexual assault allegation be reinstated immediately.

Many team members met with Kaler and other university leaders at the football complex late into the evening Friday. That scene ended a day in which the players mostly stayed quiet one day after their bold boycott announcement.

Go Gophers!!

Kaler is within his rights to be making all these public statements as to his positions righteousness, but he better be darn sure in the airtight nature of the report he is relying on and that all t's have been crossed and i's dotted.

If anything comes out later in the process that casts doubt on the players culpability the public finger wagging could really come back to haunt him. He is a seasoned administrator so I am guessing he has made damn sure that this report was conducted with all safeguards to impartiality and thoroughness.
