STrib: U football acts quickly to fill incoming class

I heard a piece on ESPN radio about over-signing and arbitrary cutting of scholarships to athletes without warning. The piece singled out the SEC as the worst perpetrators of oversigning and gave the story of an athlete who found out his scholarship was being pulled when D2 coaches started calling him to recruit him to their school. Only after he asked school admin did he learn that his scholarship was being revoked and given to a new recruit.

Doesn't the NCAA safeguard the interests of student athletes in this regard?

I've not heard of any such tragic stories affecting Gopher football players. Does that mean it's not happening at the U of M?

If I was a recruit with multiple BCS offers or good offers I would never commit unitl signing day. I'd make them all kiss my arse and show that they are truly serious until I sign.
