per Christensen:

Now, the Gophers are ready to unveil another unheralded defensive back. Eric Murray, the sophomore cornerback slated to start opposite Wells, was a consensus two-star recruit in 2012, from Riverside University High School in Milwaukee.

The thought leaves Gophers defensive backs coach Jay Sawvel shaking his head.

“He’s a prototype of what you want to recruit [at cornerback],” Sawvel said. “I want a guy who runs, I want a guy with length, and I want someone that has some toughness to him. He’s got all three of those things.”

Go Gophers!!

Interesting quote by Jay Sawvel:

“If Eric Murray committed to Minnesota, and then got offered by Georgia, he would have gotten another star or two,” Sawvel said. “And it wouldn’t have been because he changed as a player. It would have been because somebody else said he was pretty good, too. That’s why you make your own evaluation.”

Damn that Sawvel! - He is trying to restart the never ending thread on star ratings. Maybe Dpodoll can respond to him on this one.;)

In my mind, which is in agreement with my two kids, I am a 5*+ Dad. But it balances out, because my ex-wife has me ranked as a "no chance for a star".

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking. Who should we believe, a college football coach or dpodoll?

Im excited to see Murray this year, he looks skinny whenever I see him in pictures, but thats probably because he is a bit more lanky than most CB's weve had recently. With him and Wells at the CB position, that gives us some pretty solid height right there.

Really though the DB's are looking wow solid, cant believe it with the under the radar type feel to basically all the DB's we have. You would think under Brew we would have had some much more solid play due to stars, but these Kill guys are looking impressive for all being so lightly recruited.

Haha! Nicely done Doc!   :)

Wow, did dpodoll just get owned by Jay Sawvel or what? I guess that settles that debate.

Dr.Don - You will always be rated 5 stars in my book.:cheer: The only trouble is that when a 10 star rating system is used. Actually, I would never try to rate you since you're one of kind.

Thanks, Killjoy. I am admitting that I am unique, but I will never claim to be a eunuch.

Sounds like you're a walk-on and she's pondering becoming a walk-out.

After seeing their recruits, if Jay S says a Finn he saw in Helsinki was the best corner he has ever seen, I would believe him until proven otherwise. I like him as a coach. He is locking down the corners in every game better than coaches have in the last 40 years.

It doesn't matter whether he's a college coach or not. Star ratings are not based on offer lists. It is and has been easily disproven. Georgia has signed plenty of 2-stars and will continue to do so.
