STrib: Thundering herd coming down I-94 for Gophers-Bison game (as many as 20K)

I think the flickertail fans brought about 12,000 last time we played at the dome. Obviously then they had an open invitation as the dome was rarely sold out. At the new Brickhouse I seriously doubt more than 10,000 and probably much less.

Isn't their home attendance usually like 17,000?

Is that something they can spray for?

wait.... there's 20,000 people in North Dakota?! I call shenannigans

Just look out for the line of conestogas.

There will be too many. I don't expect the amount there was at the Dome in 07, but there will be a little more green in our great stadium than we want to see for sure.

I bet there will be almost as many as there was in 07

According to the boxscore from 2007 the attendance was 63,088 if there were only 12,000 Bison fans there we should even be more embarrassed that 12,000 Bison fans were as loud if not louder than 51,000 people.

Hey Portlandgopher, nice to see a fellow Gopher fan out here. I moved here over a year ago. Still getting used to being in Oregon Ducks country. Looking forward to seeing the Gophers play Oregon State in a few years.

I've been out here three years and I noticed the area really became Duck oriented around two years ago. Most Duck fans believe college football started when Chip Kelly arrived in Eugene. I don't know how many times I've had to remind Duck fans about the 2003 Sun Bowl:)

Last time we played against UM ESPN estimated 30,000. My estimate would have been around 20-25,000.

Mpls is the biggest concentration of NDSU grads anywhere, a lot of them aren't going to drive back to Fargo for games, for them, this is a chance to see NDSU against the big boys. It is not so much NDSU fans traveling from NoDak, it really is a ton of NDSU grads down in the Cities who will be going(who is going to scalp a ticket? A gopher fan, or a Bison fan?)

The ones driving from Fargo will get stuck in traffic in Des Moines.

I skimmed so I don't know if anyone has pointed this out, but they say in the article that the "Green and Gold" are coming down to Minneapolis.

NDSU's colors are Green and Yellow. Just FYI

No way with 20K, but I expect a good amount. Easily the most visiting fans minus Wisconsin & Iowa.

And I have a feeling that all 3 will be put to shame when Nebraska comes a calling in 4 weeks; WI & IA often claim that they have more than 50% of the crowd at the dome, which was always false. They had a lot of fans, but never more than the Gophers. I won't be surprised if Nebraska is able to make that claim with truth in a few weeks...

So wait...at the end of a horrid season where Gopher fans were as miserable as I had seen Iowa got maybe 8K in the door. But you think almost half of TCF will be filled with NDSU fans?

I smell something...is it cow poo?

I'm sure 20K NoDak'ers will be in town. There will not be that many at the game.

As TCF has over 10,000 less seats than the Metrodome, in order for NDSU to have as many fans this year as they had in 2007, there would have to be at least 10,000 less Gopher fans in the seats than there were in 2007. This seems quite unlikely.

Be careful, you are coming close to being considered like an Iowa fan with comments like that. Really, who cares if they get the colors wrong. I get more upset reading the fargo forum (which I rarely do) and seeing constant grammatical and punctuation errors (which all papers do) than a mistaken color scheme. I suppose that will be the bison "bulletin board material". HAHA

20K? That's one big damn line of covered wagons coming down 94.

this was a lot funnier the first time that joke was made in this thread.

Who knows how many NDSU fans will be at TCF. You have to remember that gopher fans largely don't care about this game, where for NDSU fans it is their superbowl. I have a feeling there will be a lot of Gopher fans willing to sell their ticket if indeed 20K+ NDSU fans make their way to Mpls.

Aww yes the Joey Harrington led Ducks if I remember correctly. I can tell there are a lot of bandwagon Ducks fans out here. I am surprised how much sports are not really a big deal in Portland. I stream KFAN all the time so I can hear about all the Minnesota teams.

I expect there will be more NDSU fans than some people are anticipating. This game sold out so fast just because NDSU fans bought tickets the minute they went on sale. I'd expect a solid 20,000 or so. Especially since there were so many tickets being sold on stubhub a few weeks ago. EVERY ticket was being sold for over face value, which tells me that Gopher fans were selling tickets to Bison fans just to make a little money.

I had a great vantage point for watching the crowd (but not the game) a few years ago when Bison fans claim they had 30,000 at the dome. BS. Less than a quarter of the crowd was in green and yellow.

Reality broke out in Fargo today, when the local talk station was projecting 10,000 fans for tomorrow. That's still really good for traveling fans.

It takes a definite arrogance for Bison fans to think that they'll occupy 25,000 seats at a road game when they sometimes fail to sell out their own 17,000 seat arena. They wouldn't have 25 thousand fans at tomorrow's game if their tickets were free.

The game is not sold out well over 1000 tickets are still on sale!!

Really? Everything i've been hearing is that tickets are sold out. Players have been saying it since Monday, even Kill has said it.
