STrib: The Gophers' five most unsung players

Agree with Lynn but don't know about the rest. Campion has probably been given more props than his play deserves as he's been a decent, solid tackle but nothing great. Hopefully he excels at Guard. Thomas is a decent choice however it seems like you can always include a FB type in these kinds of lists no matter how good the guy actually is. Richardson and Mortell get plenty of love. I'd say Lincoln Plesk and Antonio Thompson are 2 guys without much hype. For as much love as the secondary gets it almost always focuses on the CBs and its 'supposedly the safeties are good too' but nobody really knows why or talks much about them specifically.

Intentional misspellings right? Because they are unsung?

I agree that Mortell is important to the outcome of the game (although he is certainly well-known). I was happy to read he seems to be stepping away from media and focusing on practice. I thought his game was off in Orlando, perhaps due to having a bit too much fun away from the game, and may have contributed to the outcome.

I've made the Antonio Thompson joke so much I've tricked myself into believe that's his real name. I've never known how to spell TE's name.

Seriously? He's a punter. His job isn't overly complicated to the point that we need to be worrying about him 'focusing' on punting the ball when he's not at practice. Seriously these are college kids playing football. Cracking jokes on social media isn't exactly like coming to practice drunk. If college kids can party and hang out all night 5 days a week and still get their economics degrees I think a kid can post some jokes and not forget how to kick a football

Limegrover would say the five offensive lineman which wouldn't be a bad place to start. If you want to add a little fuel to the discussion throw in Mitch Leidner. Also Ryan Santoso seems to have lost some love when his kickoffs didn't go out of the end zone in the last half of the season. Robert Ndondo-Lay did well last year but didn't get much recognition other receiving a scholarship. People seem to have forgotten John Christenson "What have you done for me lately" contributions.

Kind of hard to call a guy who didn't really play last year 'unsung' IMO. I'm also one that believes that to this point the entire OL has been a bit overrated. We ran the ball a lot but I think a lot of our success was due more to David Cobb than the OL really creating a ton of space. I do think they'll be better this year with Christenson and Campion at Guard

I understand your point about Christenson. My point in including him was not so much that he was unsung, but more that some may have forgotten him. As far as the OL this could be a good year for them with definite improvement. With the addition of Christenson and Brian Bobek and the maturing of rest of the players I am optimistic that this will occur. Especially if Lauer can remain healthy an return to his freshman form. Pirsig and Connnor Mayes should also definitely be stronger and better. The real key as to how successful the OL will be this fall is whether they can improve their pass blocking. If they do that we may begin to see a real passing attack.
