After the Gophers first spring practice on Tuesday, coach Tracy Claeys was asked about his team's speed compared to recent years.
"I think we are right there," he said. "We can run in the secondary again and at linebacker overall, it will probably be our best speed overall at linebacker when you look at the whole group. That is what we recruit and with the way people spread the field, you have to be able to run nowadays. I feel very comfortable with our athleticism and how well we run and that."
Senior cornerback Jalen Myrick is the team's fastest player.
"He will tell you that," Claeys said. "His saying is, he will race anybody at any time anywhere. And so hopefully he isn’t doing that and getting hurt. But yeah, if you track times and all of that type of stuff, he’s probably the fastest. When he runs in those groups, their speed groups, there are a lot of them right there with him. We have a group that can run."
