Presenting the astoundingly heartbreaking and almost comical Gophers. I'm not laughing -- believe me. Covering a team that has been through this many close, close, oh-so-close losses is not fun. No one is happy. Everyone is trying, and yielding next to nothing. But it's almost unbelievable how many times Minnesota has done this. Six of seven conference losses by two possessions or fewer? It's so bizarre, it makes me want to dig through the annals of college basketball history to see if any team has ever done this before. Coach Richard Pitino said this one felt different (because Minnesota played SO bad), but it's still the third game since New Years Eve in which the Gophers have come back from deficits of 13 or greater (and lost) to go along with two times they've earned leads of nine or greater (and lost). And Minnesota is still winless on the road in conference play this year. Pitino has just two such victories in his tenure.

Go Gophers!!

It amazes me that the Strib actually pays Amelia. Her penchant for the obvious is striking. I'd like to be the first on record to encourage Amelia to dig through the annals of college basketball history just in the off-chance that she might learn something in the process.

I much prefer her writings to yours.

Loved Tiny Arch....

the player...not as big a fan of the cantankerous one who posts here.....but man I agree on this one.

The next interesting thing she writes will be the first interesting thing she has written.

Yeah sad but true. She doesn't bring much to the table.

I think pitino needs to ban Amelia from the gopherhole

I have basically quit watching the games this year it isn't worth the aggravation. We need the seniors to move on the team has terrible chemistry and even with Hollins' recent improvements they are all having sub par years. We will have solid guard play going forward the next several years but will that matter? We have nothing but big question marks with all of our bigs for the foreseeable future I have a hard time right now seeing where we are going to get quality B1G level play out of the 4,5 and maybe even 3 with the players we have currently on the team and in the pipeline.

Well, Pitino has at least three (someone could still transfer) more scholarships than he was planning on having prior to the season so he has the ability to recruit at least two players at those positions you mention. He would be wise to use that opportunity and I believe that he will. This season should have taught him that it's easy to have fewer players available than you thought you had.

Was there a better Gopher basketball writer before her? Journalism isn't attracting the numbers it used to attract. Poor job opportunities and low pay may have something to do with that.
