Okay, I've been as guilty as the next fan in complaining about the negative coverage from the Star Tribune over the years. In years past, I would feel pretty good about a win on Saturday (or even feel consoled that a loss wasn't the end of the world) and then open up Sunday morning's Strib to be bombarded by negativism that made me wonder what their agenda was.

Yesterday, I couldn't even read this board because the postings were so inconsistent with the outcome of the game. People bitching about the QB play, people bitching about the coaching, people bitching about the student section, people bitching about their fellow fans....... on and on to ad nauseum.

Yet I woke up this morning to have the Star Tribune confirm what I thought about the game. We won.

Not only that, we won in the kind of way any other team would expect to win on a cold and windy day... by running, by stopping the run and by capitalizing on (and forcing) mistakes.

I am proud of the Gophers!
I am proud of all the players!
I am proud of the student section!
I am proud of the fans!
I am very happy with the media coverage!
I am disappointed in the negativism of this board - especially some of the long-time posters.

I don't ever want to read another post about media-bias in the Twin Cities by those who have spent the last 18 hours bitching and moaning on this board.

The same negativity on GI as on GH plus you pay for it. I don't think fans(or so called fans) understand that you have a choice to focus on the positive or the negative. People on these website mirror what they read and hear in the media. You have choice to have HOPE or DISPAIR. We need to change our attitude around here and start being Gopher Supporters not Gopher Critics.

I think a lot of it = the talent on the team, which Brewster deserves praise for (Stoudermire, Cooper, Edwards, Kirksey, Wilhite, Theret, Lawrence, Small, Green, Eskridge/Whaley, Carufel, Royston, and Traye (?), and others) ... some of Mason's guys are obviously also contributing a lot ... they lose a lot after this year ... the Big Ten is just average ... I, for one, have relatively high hopes for this team ... maybe even an Outback Bowl appearance ... preseason thought 7 wins, but thought they could get to 8 or 9 ... just want to see some of that potential come to fruition.

Quality takes tme. I am excited about the future as the young players have done well when given the opportunity. We must have solid play from the veterans down the stretch to get to a bowl. There are more guys very capable of making big plays. The leaders need to learn from the flop in 08 and encourage and the youngsters as the season gets longer and more difficult. The quality of the 2 deeps will show up the next 6 games.

We still have our best game ahead of us. This team has shown the desire to win and play hard.

hahaha I was just reading Kent's summary of the game in the Strib and thinking this exact same thing! It is also pretty cool that they gave a game ball to Jeff T&A

Kent's Positive Take!

I think there's a third choice, which is to look at the state of the program as impartially as possible. Trying to apply rational analysis to where the team is at does not preclude one from being a fan.

Whether or not we're overwhelmingly negative or positive has no effect on the product on the field. I think all fans should be critics, in that they should apply the tenants of critical thinking and look at the program honestly. That doesn't mean not rooting on Saturday, but it does mean demanding the very best from the program.
