Ahanmisi said that he's been working a lot with JUCO transfer Deandre Mathieu, who has a reputation of playing intense defense -- and his regular bouts with Andre Hollins in practice don't hurt. And Pitino said he is addressing the subject of turnovers as a whole, with the team emphasizing ballhandling in practice on Tuesday.

"Coming into the University of Minnesota, I really didn't play defense that well, "Ahanmisi said. "Just playing against Andre Hollins, guarding one of the top guards in the country is going to help me."

Go Gophers!!

I just have this funny feeling that pitino is going to put Mav in a position to be successful and will have a solid year hitting some 3's for this team.

I've always said Mav could be very effective as a spot-up shooter... just don't ask him to be a ball handler or decision maker. That's setting him up to fail, and Tubby's insistence to put him in that position really infuriated me. Just accept that he's a short, low-usage 2-guard who will keep the defense honest by making shots when they're available.
