Derek Barlage tweeted Saturday after the Gophers’ 24-17 loss to Nebraska in which Leidner threw no touchdowns and one interception “Remember when [McShay] said Leidner could be a 1st round QB in the NFL draft. That was glorious.”

Owen Riese tweeted Monday “Future NFL Draft first round QB Mitch Leidner hasn’t thrown a touchdown in 144 pass attempts.

The mean tweets have built up throughout the season with Leidner struggling to prove McShay a genius despite the Gophers’ 7-3 record.

The most recent mock drafts by Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, ESPN, Draft Write, you name it, Leidner is nowhere to be found in the first round, or second or third … . You get it. However, the high projection might not have been fair.

Not really fair to Mitch if you make too much of this stuff.

Any big mobile dude with a lot of starts, he's gonna be on some radars for some scout to check up on. So in that VERY distant way draft talk wasn't insane. 1st round draft prediction, kinda crazy / unfair.

When that hoopla started I was concerned this would happen. It was never really fair to to Mitch. McShay deserves to burn, not Mitch. I had lower hopes/expectations. I was hopeful last spring he would perform well enough this fall to get invited to the combine as that would likely mean we had a very good season.

I think some of the members of the media should be called for targeting - but apparently, when Mitch is the target, he just can't get the benefit of the doubt.
