Surrounded by reporters last month at Big Ten media days in Chicago, Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner couldn’t wait to talk about his roommate, Jonah Pirsig.

“Wait ’til you see him,” Leidner said.

At 6-9, Pirsig is hard to miss. Always has been. But Gophers coach Tracy Claeys was determined to change the offensive line’s culture last winter, and Pirsig got the message.

The senior right tackle from Blue Earth, Minn., entered training camp at a leaner and meaner 325 pounds, ready to raise his stock for the NFL draft.

“I kind of wish I had four more years of eligibility to keep it going,” Pirsig said. “But I’m really grateful for Coach Claeys changing what we’re doing. This is the healthiest I’ve felt since I’ve been here.”

Go Gophers!!

The hiring of Coach Miller will make all the difference. You are going to see what a physical offensive line can do.

Exciting to read about

Love to see Pirsig receive some post season honors and get drafted high...it would mean we likely had a nice season.

Pirsig was one recruit I thought for sure would be a fringe contributor, despite being a 4* to some services. He's been a cornerstone of the line the last 3 years.

Pirsig when healthy has been a pretty solid tackle for us. Having a dedicated OL coach will help his senior year immeasurably. The line Miller coached the spring game opened some nice holes for the backs.

Tommy Olson was saying on the KFAN morning show that the feedback he has been getting from current (offensive line) players is they are loving the new offensive coaching, and there appears to be a new swagger to the O line.

We will see. I am old enough to remember a LOT of off-season and pre-season love fests. But, for now... it sure seems encouraging.

I don't recall ANY off season OLine lovefests in the Limey era. I remember reports of players like Hank Ekpe being unblockable in camp. We've always been biting our nails hoping that they could be a serviceable unit.

This quote from Jonah Pirsig speaks volumes about the changes that have been made to the offense line.

In retrospect, I am not shocked it took Pirsig a while to adjust to D1 football. He was so much bigger and stronger than anyone he faced in HS that he was never really challenged. And, with all due respect to the Blue Earth program, I suspect their HS weight program is a little different than a college weight program. Hopefully, he can finish with a strong senior year and have a shot at the pros. Interesting to compare his career to Tyler Marz, another big man from a small school in SW MN. Marz had a decent career at WI, but was not drafted and signed as an un-drafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans.

I found this clip from the Spring Practice, compare and contrast Limey and Miller

I have to say, watching some of the highlights of Oseland moving around, vs Miller recruits, it's night and day. And Limey thought Oseland was his top recruit who might start as a true frosh. Not to knock Quinn, he's still young and hope he develops, but he looks like a statue today.
