The Gophers still hope football attendance reaches 100% capacity at TCF Bank Stadium this fall, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, "the reality of that is probably dwindling by the day as we get closer," associate athletic director Mike Wierzbicki said this week.

Wierzbicki, who heads Gophers external affairs, said the department is planning for various contingencies, including filling the stadium at 75%, 50% and 25% of capacity.

Somewhere between those final two percentages, the school would have to turn away some season-ticket holders for each game. And the department's "Gopher Score" loyalty program could determine that cutoff.

The department bases the ranking on factors such as the number of years a fan has held season tickets and the amount of money donated to the athletics department. The Gophers already use this system to determine access to bowl game ticket sales as well as season-ticket upgrades.

Wierzbicki, though, is cautiously optimistic it won't have to come to that.

"Hopefully, we're in a spot where we can take care of season-ticket holders and then still have the ability to leverage that Gopher Score system for single-game sales," he said.

In 2018, the Gophers sold 21,663 season tickets. That number was similar heading into last year's opener, and the team is on the same trajectory this year, despite the pandemic and economic downturn.

The Gophers have a lot to sell with quarterback Tanner Morgan, wide receiver Rashod Bateman and several other key players back from last year's 11-2 season.

If the Gophers again sell about 21,700 season tickets, that would represent 43% of TCF Bank Stadium's official capacity of 50,805.

"With the season we had last year and where the momentum is at, there's tons of positivity," Wierzbicki said. "So we were on pace … to sell our largest number of new season tickets than we ever have with Gopher football. And I think that we'll still hit that. … Last year, we finished renewals right around the 90 percent mark. That's kind of where we're trending at right now."

Go Gophers!!

With my ranking, even with 10 years as a season ticket holder, I do not want to even think about this.

My Gopher ranking is somewhere around 12,600. So if they go 25% would that mean I miss the cut? Would season ticket holders be priority? I’m sure you have to factor in allowing students there

Students and season ticket holders should definitely be the first two to get tickets. With students getting the first crack.

We only sell 21,000 season seats ! How many student's do we average at the games ? I will have seats and more than happy to donate 4 of them to the Boys and Girls club.

The cost of turning away a season ticket holder is a heck of a lot more than a student...

Yes but students go to the college and this is a college sport, also students only have 4 years that they get to go to games as a student.

Students should be the first allowed in. My # is under 1,500, so it’s a good bet I would get tickets. If need be I will donate them to a Sr. Student.

Would there be a limit on the number of seats a season ticket holder could purchase? Supply could dry up if the first 2000 begin speculating the market.

I believe the My Gopher ranking includes all sports, so a number of people above you may not even have football tickets. If there are around 21,000 season tickets sold for football, this would be around 40% of the seats. if they go with a percentage below 40%, then some ticket holders would be left out.

Hahahahaha.

Yeah, I hope someone leaves a free Porsche sitting in my driveway, with the keys inside.

You are probably right - but it does confound me considering it’s pretty widely accepted that the death rate is roughly 1/10th of the initial estimates that were cited in shutting the world down.

I myself hope to be in those seats. Happy to wear a mask to protect others, I just want to watch our team!

If American's weren't such pieces of dung about wearing masks, that would be one thing.

But you know half the assholes in the stadium will refuse to wear them and be jerkoffs about it.

Such terrible language.

I've never owned season tickets, so i mostly know what i read here in forums.

Do people not suspect that maybe a lot of older and more susceptible season ticket holders will decline attending games in person this season, therefore opening up some seats? Or would they just buy the tickets anyway and sell them all singly? Or does nobody besides me think older people will stay away to any measurable degree?

While I will probably have seats, I still wonder about Walz and whether he, in his ultimate wisdom, will cancel the any form of season.

Some will probably give the tickets to younger friends & family or sell them on stubhub/seat geek. Others will exercise their freedom to risk their own health in order to watch live football. Literal die-hards.

This is a little concerning he will not even let Valley Fair open not even at half capacity

are they going to sell concessions? cant drink a beer with a mask on.
Good point!! It's physically impossible to pull the mask down for a moment, take a drink, and then move the mask back into place!

It's been scientifically studied, and proven impossible to do. Data supports it!!

Being outside in the non-still air, and if you wear a (N95) mask, you should have minimal risk.

Even with the reduction in games from 7 to at most 5, the Scholarship Donation remains unchanged? Do I have that correct?

I would imagine they have or will leave it considering reduced supply and addition of a B1G game...

They already went through one round of 'plans' for if the entire season is canceled and announced those rules.

Last email I got said they were still working things out in light of the B1G only scheduling plan.

I think they're wary of announcing another set of plans, and another, and another.... as things change.

I wouldn't count on donations or anything else being a constant for now.

Thanks, just wondering aloud since there is another "deadline" today.

Soooo...a person not wearing a mask is considered an asshole...? Wow. Maybe you should have some diversity training and maybe some of us have antibodies and maybe some of us are just are unable to wear a mask. It seems that you are the asshole, asshole.

Oh let me edit this...I see your posts...you think your opinions are the only ones that count. Joke...!!!!

Harley Gopher, do not read to much into that comment pushing Mask politics and social control; some people are under the thrall of the hard left.

I accepted some time ago that none of us are going to any games this year, at least until after the Nov. 2nd election. The left is determined to create carnage, fear, and backlash, since that is the only thing they have done that has worked. The actions of the teacher unions are shameful.

After 11/2/2020 suddenly COVID will go away, or be fixed if the left wins.

Some of these young SJW/ snowflakes, they really buy into all this "White Fragility" and 1619 BS that is completely mean to divide us.

They really believe all the radical left BS, and the mask issue is just the current symbol of this insanity. The level of civility has dropped to a new level in my lifetime, as the poster you replied to exemplifies. He calls people A-holes and implies threatening actions on a whim.

Liberal fascism is what this is. George Orwell wrote about it a long time ago.
