Gophers volleyball match with Wisconsin shatters TV viewership record

The first Big Ten match to air on FOX became the most watched volleyball match in history and topped the NBA, NHL, Premier League and Formula 1 for viewership.

The Gophers volleyball match against Wisconsin on FOX last Sunday was viewed by 1.66 million households, according to data released by Nielsen, shattering viewership records for the sport.

The three-set loss for the Gophers was the first Big Ten volleyball match to air on broadcast television and it broke the previous record of 1.19 million that was set in the 2021 NCAA Championship between Wisconsin and Nebraska which aired on ESPN.

It also topped the previous regular season high, the Nebraska-Wisconsin match a week prior on the Big Ten Network, by more than 1 million viewers.

Too bad we didn't put up more of a fight. I dunno.

Anyway, I think our program will be fine. It'll just take a year or two to reboot. There is an element of malaise on this squad that needs to be taken care of. I am optimistic about our incoming recruiting class(es) and feel there is a leader in there somewhere.
