per the STrib:

Gophers freshman Donovahn Jones passed up five SEC scholarship offers and ventured from his home state of Georgia to Minnesota largely because of the chance to play quarterback. Now that he’s a wide receiver, he still thinks he made the right decision.

“We want to get Donovahn involved because he’s a guy who can turn a 20-yard play into an 80-yard touchdown,” Nelson said. “We’ve seen it in practice, and now it’s just a matter of doing it in the games. He’s getting closer and closer every week.”

Go Gophers!!

We need receivers, hopefully Jones lives up to the hype. After last week, it is hard to not get excited about his potential.

Max Williams, drew wolotarsky, Donovan Jones and Harbeson will be a nice receiving core down the road

IT would be nice to see Jones throw a pass out of the Jet Sweep

Everyone is going to start overplaying the sweep motion off of that play. That is when you spring the throw back pass
back to the quarterback or to a wheeling running back who should be wide open when eveyone motions to D Jones side of the field. Jones has a strong arm we should take advantage of it.
Gophers should catch someone with that play at least once this season.

Cobb, Williams, Jones & Nelson make for a solid Offensive core...

The best thing about that story is that he appears fully on board with the move to WR being a permanent thing. Although it seemed pretty clear to everyone that he was going to be a WR and not a QB at the college level if he was still holding onto the idea of playing QB he would be a kid you would need to worry about transferring at the end of the season.

Clearly he is a great athlete and we are severely lacking at the WR position so assuming he takes to the position he has a chance to be a very good player for us at a position of need, though it may take another off season at the position for things to really click for him.

Plus, they could use him for a trick play or two or even the wildcat to use his passing ability.
