* Spring practice will start on March 4, with the spring game on April 12. That’s much earlier than last year, as the team waited to start until March 26 with the spring game on April 27. This year, the team will hold two weeks of camp before spring break (March 17-21) and three weeks after the break.

* Players scheduled for offseason surgery include: CB Derrick Wells (shoulder), WR KJ Maye (groin), T Jonah Pirsig (hand), TE Alex Bisch (ankle), FB Tyler Hartman (shoulder).

Go Gophers!!

Awesome. That's the same day as Goldy's Run - a 5k or 10 mile race on campus with the finish line at the 50 yard line of TCF bank stadium. There's an awesome kids run with Goldy Gopher too that my 3 and 4 year olds ran last year. It's course is around the stadium and also finishes on the 50. It's a great race and you get to see yourself on the big jumbotron crossing the finish line. Highly recommend it. http://www.goldysrun.com

Pirsig will miss a second spring practice. He won't crack the lineup if he can't practice.

OK, so you are saying he should not have the surgery then because he is injured he won't be able to crack the lineup?

Seems unlikely to me.

He has 8 weeks or so to heal and probably could practice with protection. Greater question is who do
you think is going to give up their spot or be vulnerable to losing it?

I'll second that, great run through/around campus. Finishing on the field is by far the best part. My only caution is to be careful coming down the ramp before hitting the field, you can get going too fast if you're not careful. Weather has been pretty good for early April too. I guess I'll just have to make a day of it.

Just saying if he keeps getting hurt he is not going to be the player we all hoped he would be. Have to practice to play at this level, particularly on the O-line.

The surgery list sure explains why some of those players didn't contribute as expected.

Interesting. I might have to try the doubleheader of run and football that day. Could work out perfectly.

I don't know, but I think an OL that's 8 weeks off of hand surgery can likely go through full practice--except for the holding part.

I hope the people doing the run stick around for the Spring Game. I'm going to take my daughter to the kid's run. Maybe some Vikings fans will show up to get a look at where the Vikings will be playing this fall.

I just hope it doesn't snow! With the way the winter is going April 12 is a tad early.

Agreed. Kind of what I was thinking as well, Ruppy.

For all you guys who like to worry about the weather maybe you can ask the Vikings to install the heating cables now. That way we can combine my two favorite topics into one string. Now if somebody can figure out how we tie in star rankings to the above topic I would have a "one-stop" shopping string for my favorites.

Hopefully the weather isn't as brutal as it was for the race last year.

Thanks - Obviously my post wasn't met to be taken seriously. It just dawned on me that we could make some of these over discussed and analyzed topics more interested if we merged them together.

I agree! So true!

It's too cold for a spring game on that date unless our injured 2-star recruits, sitting in the new luxury suites, can beg the Vikes to get the heating coils installed this winter."

I still think we need a laser heating system, if only because lasers are fun.

I want sunglass ( not mirrors either ) and t - shirt weather for the Spring Game. This may be a push for people to travel down to a controlled.scrimmage if it's 40 degrees.

Thanks for the info. IMO, its too early. Would have preferred late April.
