I know this tends to be a pro sports market. I know Gophers football hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire for the past half-century. I know Minnesota’s current four-game winning streak rings hollow with a lot of people considering the soft schedule it has come against.

But I’m still incredibly underwhelmed by what I perceive to be this market’s interest in the Gophers’ upcoming game at Nebraska on Saturday. Both teams are 7-2. The game is in prime time. This is serious.

Four consecutive conference wins, regardless of opponent, is an accomplishment — and it’s afforded the Gophers this opportunity: win all three of their remaining games, starting at Nebraska, and Minnesota will win the Big Ten West and play in the conference title game. Win two of the next three and they’ll go to a very nice bowl game — and still have a decent chance of winning the West, depending on other outcomes.

Go Gophers!!

I was thinking of posting a poll asking how excited other posters were about this game. Then I saw this article. I am getting pumped about this game!

I like this guys response.

Everything? You mean how Nebraska got smoked last week, may not have their starting QB, and nearly lost to Purdue as well? Yep, EVERYTHING points to the Gophers getting stomped.

That and the media predictions are all for Nebraska routs.
Oh wait.

It would be fitting for the gophers to finally break through and for no one to be paying attention. That might mean
This Is Totally The Year!

I think these days "everything" is "something popped in my head". Same goes with reported sports media "whispers" and "rumors" and "sources".

Made **** up in my head... must be good enough.

so it was an old coach who said that? I assumed it was something about MN cold weather and game day tailgating food stuffs.

O.K.

Who the **** is Jon Marthaler? Literally never heard of him.

I'm really excited because we'll find out a LOT about this team on Saturday.

I'm really torn on what I think will happen. This could go so many ways. My eyes have been telling me since OrSt that MN is nothing more than average. Problem is, I think the same of Nebraska. BUT, both teams have stellar records and have played extremely competitive games on the road with teams generally considered to be Top 10 - 15. Both teams have also laid complete eggs (see MN vs. Iowa and Neb vs. OSU) and trailed at home against the same poor Purdue team at halftime. Who the heck knows anything? All signs point to a close game won by the team who makes less mistakes.

We still are the "Rodney Dangerfield" in the State of Minnesota. I think even if we beat Nebraska the Northwestern game won't sellout. The stupid fan base in this State is so concerned with the "Little Darlings'", it is pathetic. I'll be at the Northwestern game regardless if we win or lose at Nebraska.I hope many will do the same.

What a shock

I don't think were going to win either(Big 10 Referees will make sure of it) and we will see the Gophers playing two opponents on Saturday Big 10 officials and Nebraska. But it is no surprise that the Twin Cities media all expects Nebraska to route the Gophers.

What was Brew doing with his mouth when he wasn't talking, which wasn't often. Gotta love the guy. Gonna bring some this weekend.

Here is what I think will happen at Nebraska:

If the Gophers win a game in the forest, but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

And the Big Ten's motivation to commit fraud and risk destroying the reputation of the conference to put Nebraska over the top would be what exactly?

Heck if they were going to cheat for a team to win it would make far more sense to cheat in our favor in order to setup a potential matchup of 2 - 9-2 teams playing for the Big Ten West title in Camp Randall in a few weeks.

But feel free to run with your conspiracy theories about it being rigged ahead of time, our fans are great at assuming the officials and conference are out to get us even when there is really no reason why they would be.

If we beat Nebraska tomorrow night I would expect to see a near sellout at the Northwestern game because a win over Nebraska would be one that would finally move the needle some in regards to fan and National interest in the team. So far we have just beaten bad/mediocre teams but a win over a top 25 team on the road would get noticed.

This one should be a lot of fun! The team has played well on the road and if the Gophers can stop the Nebraska running backs (big task with the weakness at linebacker and strong Husker backs), then I think the Gophers shall carry the Broken Chair.

To have an away game be shown in prime time late in the season with something still on the line is so awesome that I definitely feel sufficiently excited. IMO watching this game with friends and other fans in a bar somewhere in the cities sweetens the pot of my gopher fandom and makes me glad/proud to have season tickets.

I am not a conspiracy theory guy - more of a "referees are human" idea. They will tend to favor the home team, especially when there are large crowds (I hear Nebraska draws large crowds).
