Per Randy:

Because of injuries, opt-outs for the NFL draft and one transfer, the Gophers were without seven players who likely would have started the bowl game. In the secondary, for example, senior Justin Walley didn’t play, which meant redshirt freshman Za’Quan Bryan got the start. He responded by making two tackles, including one for loss, and intercepting a fourth-quarter pass near the Minnesota end zone, ending the Hokies’ last desperate chance.

“I’ll say this: the best for Gopher football is yet to come because the path that we’ve had,” said the hard-hitting Henderson, who spent two years in Minnesota after transferring from Southeastern Louisiana. “The amount of young guys who have seen the process and what we go through, that [redshirt freshman] class specifically has taken it really well. Their game plays are transforming.”

Safety Kerry Brown, also a redshirt freshman, had a big impact in derailing a Virginia Tech threat earlier in the fourth quarter. The Hokies, trailing by 14 points, reached the Gophers 17-yard line and faced fourth-and-7. Quarterback Collin Schlee fired a pass intended for Stephen Gosnell. Brown swooped in and knocked the ball away, getting a turnover on downs.

Of course, that secondary also returns Koi Perich, who as a true freshman this year led the Big Ten and tied for third nationally with five interceptions on his way to earning second-team All-America honors from The Sporting News.

The promising youngsters aren’t only on defense. With top receiver Daniel Jackson out because of injuries that were recently addressed, fellow senior Elijah Spencer had his big moment, earning bowl MVP honors by catching six passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Fleck, though, was just as excited about the play of redshirt freshman Donielle Hayes, who saw extended action and caught two passes for 22 yards.

“That was probably one that we really needed to come along,” Fleck said. “And this was huge for his 2025 season. We’re going to need ‘Nuke’ Hayes, and it’s taken him a few years to develop. … Not everybody is ready to play the moment they get here.”

Go Gophers!!

Lindsey is going to spend quite a bit of time in the decision room next year with the football looking to Nuke.

Bryan, Perich, Brown will be a nasty secondary for the next 2-3 years.
Bryan did a nice job against VT. Will be interesting to see who takes the other corner spot but some good young players in our secondary. As long as we can keep them all here we should hopefully have a strong secondary for the next few years.

I just wished he would have played Lindsey the second half. I feel good about alot of things but we still have a huge question mark at quarterback. Wish he could have seen the field more.

I'm impressed with the depth of this team, very little drop-off with missing so many starters.
It was obvious in the Bowl game that we had much better talent,,,, stronger, faster, bigger than VT. We match up well with the B1G talent level. You could not say that prior to PJ.

Had we pulled away a little more I think a QB change would have been made but VT was just close enough that they probably decided to play it safe and stick with Max under center.

Would have been nice if Drake had gotten a few more live game reps over the course of the season but the most important thing for him was learning and developing and hopefully he learned a lot watching how Brosmer went about things.

Will be interesting to watch the QB battle in the spring. Drake would seem like the obvious favorite to win the job but he will have to earn it.

It's basically going to be a 3 way battle between Lindsey, Wittke and Kollock, right?

It's between Lindsey and Pyron. But Drake a heavy favorite.
I would bet Whittke gets a shot as well but yeah the other two are likely the favorites with Drake being the most likely winner of the battle.

1/2 in a meaningless bowl game will have absolutely no impact on how he plays next year.

Lindsay playing would have made us feel better and no one else. I am so glad we have a couple easy games to start the season. We have a perfect place to see what each QB can do.

I really think with our schedule 2025 can be special.

going into 2024, I don't think many fans really knew what to expect from Brosmer. I think there was a sense of hope, but we didn't know for sure. and after the North Carolina game, things were not looking promising. but Brosmer improved as the season went on, and the coaches adjusted game plans to fit his strengths.

now as we go into 2025, it's a very similar situation. we don't really know what to expect from Lindsey - or Pyron if he winds up being the game #1 starter. but hopefully the coaches learned something from 2024 and will continue adjusting as the season goes on in order to get the most out of whoever winds up as the QB.

I’m not ready to sleep on Buffalo. New coach this year and made some noise. I’ll feel better when I hear that Dolac is out of eligibility, and I really wish the staff would look at Red Murdock, those are two difference makers on defense.

I hope we can get a couple years out of the qb position. It seemed like Brosmer took some adjustment time, relatively short season doesn’t allow many hiccups along the way working on learning an offense. Developing a timing with the receivers is important and it would be nice not to start at square one every year.
I would think developing a qb rather than headhunting every year would be a much better solution.

Not much adjustment time. Even his worst games weren't so bad. Max wasn't a great athlete and didn't have the strongest arm. What distinguished him from many other QBs was what he had above the neck.

Well I was kind of referring to NC where he maybe looked a little shaky. A game or 2 like that you can go from a chance at cfp to the Mayo bowl. Not that there’s anything wrong with that……, not meant to be a bad reflection on anyone (esp. max) it just is such a growth position.

I understand the sentiment, but Max deserved to play and finish that game. He has been an absolute God-send this season and it was the icing on the cake for him to finish this season with a win. I would have like to have him leave the game with about 30 seconds left so he could have gotten a send-off from Gopher fans.
