Big 12 Conference schools could now face fines, and even the loss of future home games, for failing to keep fans from storming courts or rushing fields after games.

Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the measure passed Wednesday gives him a broad authority to deal with such violations.

"I don't know that there's anything off the table in dealing with those issues," Bowlsby said at the end of the first full day of the league's spring meetings. "I think I've been given broad prerogatives to deal with those issues."

The loss of home games is quite excessive and I can't imagine that will ever happen.

Interesting decision by the Big 12, and I'm sure the other conferences will follow.

I'm glad I was able to get on the court after the Indiana game!

Go Gophers!!

God forbid anyone have any fun in sports. Next they'll probably ban clapping because someone could sprain their wrist and sue the school.

Sounds like something Roger Goodell would come up with.

Clapping induced wrist sprains are extremely important!!!! Way to just ignore my new cause and charity group I'm starting.

Maybe you can merge your Clapping Induced Wrist Sprains non-profit into George's "Human Fund"!

Why is it that people dedicated to not having fun seem to always find their way into administrative positions in conference and university athletic departments? Let the students rush the court for a big win, let them say the cheers they want, and let the band play the songs they want.

Because of attorneys and insurance companies?

Like it or not, schools have to consider liability in today's climate, when people file lawsuits at the drop of a hat, or a spilled cup of coffee. Let's say the Gophs beat Wisconsin, the fans storm the court, and some kid falls off the raised floor and gets a concussion (or worse). by the time the 10:00 news started, there would be lawyers lined up at the kid's house, begging to take the case on contingency.

Or, let's say the fans storm the court, and some idiot fan punches a WI player. That fan would likely find themselves in a different court facing assault charges.

those are the kinds of things that risk management people advise clients to try and avoid.

So stupid these games are for college kids let them have fun and let them storm the damn court any time they want! It's college sports not professional . The players love it!

And the stupid gets stupider:

Wait ... How does that have ANYTHING to do with sportsmanship?

I've never understood these types of rules. Didn't we have some kind of policy in place? I don't know if it was a University policy, or a conference/NCAA policy, or some kind of conference/NCAA suggestion that we took seriously, but there was a time when we wouldn't even get a replay of a play that was under review in football or hockey. It is ridiculous to tell the people operating a sporting event that they cannot show certain replays of the game they are at. It is ten times more absurd to have a stadium/arena full of paying ticket holders standing around watching officials review a call and then not even letting them see a replay of what is being reviewed.

That's pretty bad. The Big 12 should be embarrassed.
