Per Levy:
It didn't take long for Kerry Brown to make an impression at the University of Minnesota.
In his first scrimmage with the Golden Gophers, the Naples High graduate was making plays all over the field, defensive coordinator Danny Collins recalled.
"That's really hard to do, especially at that safety position," he said. "And he's just been a guy that's always been confident, he's always been ready for his opportunity. And I think he's a guy that when he gets his opportunity, he's going to make the most of it."
As a redshirt sophomore, Brown has done exactly that. Coming off a standout season that put him on the shortlist for Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year, Brown has quickly translated his success in a decorated high school career to the college level as he flourishes on and off the field.
As Brown steps up as a young leader for the Gophers, he has an opportunity to become one of the best defensive backs to suit up in maroon and gold.
"We've been working hard, getting together every single day, trying to be the best," Brown said. "For myself, always trying to get better every day to be the best version of myself."
