Star Tribune's coaches list: "Names that Fit Well"

The STrib list looks pretty solid. As a fan, I wouldn't have a problem with any of those guys. It will be interesting to see which direction they go.

Nice lists, but no one that hasn't been suggested here.

One to keep an eye on

Gary Pinkel- Big Twelve is going to be run by Texas and only has 10 teams. He might want the stability of a move for his entire staff to MN. This was mentioned by the Fargo Flash on KFAN this morning. Interesting take.

I could live with that. We would have to offer him the max 3 million for x amount of years.

Now that would be a shocker. Very interesting.

The man knows how to beat Nebraska, so that's definitely a plus.

I agree that Pinkel would be an interesting hire. Mizzou has a great defense this year too.

Pinkel, or someone like him, would be a really good hire.

Pinkel is making $2.3 mil/year at Missou with a contract that runs through 2015. Unless we're REALLY willing to open the pocketbook I don't see him as a viable option.

The annual $2.3MM is doable, I think. What's probably not is the buyout of his existing contract. Could the boosters come up with $8-10MM to buy out Missou? Seems doubtful to me.

Would be a very sexy hire, though.

it would be very fun to watch a triple option team here!

I am thinking Brady Hoke has become or will become a fast riser on the list for replacement. He has a Big Ten background and is beginning the turnaround as SDSU in his second season.

Pinkel, would be a very sexy hire, though.

To those who follow college football yes, but to the passive fan, not so much. Even the causal fan would have heard of Mark Richt and know that Georgia is SEC powerhouse(not saying they are, that's just the perception) while the causal fan would not have heard of Pinkel and when they hear he was at Mizzou they wouldn't get all that more excited. Mizzou does not have the public perception of being a powerhouse.(again, not saying that's true but that's what the general public will think)

But for those that follow college football know that Pinkel would be a great hire, including myself.

Jerry Kill, Northern Illinois head coach

Just FYI...He can certainly coach, but he's battled multiple serious health issues.

John Madden

Experience: he's got college and pro coaching experience, and has been successful as a head coach.
Recruiting: every 17-18 year old in the country know the man.
Intangibles: he's got all those awesome Madden NFL 11 plays to choose from, and he knows his way around a telestrator. He's innovative (case in point: the turducken). Plus he comes with a team bus.

And the clincher - he's from Austin, MN. BOOM!

“Hey, the offensive linemen are the biggest guys on the field, they're bigger than everybody else, and that's what makes them the biggest guys on the field.”
-John Madden

One guy I would like to see at the U is......

Ellerson at Army. He's a terrific coach.

Trouble is, I've been an Army fan my whole life, and I would HATE to see him leave
West Point.

Next candidate.....
