Whether you care about the people behind you or not, standing the whole game in anywhere but the student section is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE! Standing encourages the generation of noise, and when we have the ball and the 40 second clock is under 30 we all need to be quiet, quiet, quiet. Sitting down would help facilitate this. Standing the entire game(outside student section) works against this important factor in supporting the Gopher football team.

Having said that, every damn person in the stadium who is physically able should be on their feet raising hell on every defensive 3rd down! If the other team converts the 1st 11 3rd downs still get off your ass on the 12th.

All I have to say on the subject. Thanks for listening.

Standing the whole game is not counterproductive, in fact standing leads to moving, which can lead to increased circulation which can lead to warming up. I went to my first game at the Bank against Wisconsin and stood on all third down defensive series and key offensive possessions. I was in the nonstudent section and yes, I was one of three people that stood at these times. That is F&!@#$ SAD! Myself and my other three comrades were also the only ones yelling on those crucial defensive plays. I love gopher football and would just about give up any part of my body to go see all the games. To see people not support their team the way they should and leave ten!!! minutes early makes me want to vomit. Go to another Big Ten School with a larger more supportive fan base and the people sitting would be the odd ones out. It pisses me off that many of our fans act like they are at a damn movie, its football panzies get off your ass and start makin some noise for your team.

I pick my spots, but will ALWAYS get up for 3rd or 4th downs. Getting up for the Rouser is also a must.

I've been to games at MSU, Purdue, IU, NU, Wisconsin, and Michigan and I can tell you that at NONE of those places did the fans stand the entire game. Students yes, but the rest of the general ticket buying populace, no way.

I'm sitting this one out ... I've stated my position and am standing by it. ...

I am not suggesting that one has to stand the entire game to be a true Gopher Fan, but the last half of the fourth quarter when we needed a defensive stop against Wisconsin people stopped getting up on third down. I can understand this to a point as the Badgers previous third down plays they converted easily. But the truth of it is in my area I was in the minority standing and yelling for these plays. It makes me sick to my stomach. I'm not saying we all have to stand up all the time. Crucial plays a must, followed by yelling as loud as humanly possible. There is a happy medium between the two, and from where I was sitting there was not enough standing, not too much. I have never been to Sconie's stadium, but I heard it was a lot of standing and yelling and just all around roudier. I think thats a good thing.

Exactly. I've been to road games at around ten different venues and this is the way that standing has always worked. I am baffled at how much mileage this topic has gotten. I have gone to football games for years, stood up at the times that you have described, and have never had an issue with anyone. It amazes me that this is such a big deal.

We intentionally got tickets in the back row, my brother and I stand all game, my dad stands most of the game.

Look, I don't especially care whether you are standing or sitting outside of the student section.

THE KEY IS TO MAKE NOISE ON EVERY SINGLE DEFENSIVE PLAY!!!

I'm tired of the student section being the only place where we yell on every defensive snap. If you watch the games closely you'll notice a pattern--when the opposing team has the ball on the student side of the 50, they are unable to hear their calls and the QB is forced to walk up to each of his linemen individually to make calls. However, when the ball is on the other side of the field NO ONE MAKES ANY NOISE UNTIL 3RD DOWN!

That's unacceptable. If the sitters really want to make the standers back off, it's time to make some noise!

My friends and I have a block of seats in section 135 in the 12-15 row range and this last week's game made me embarrassed to be a gopher fan. Our group is generally one of the more lively groups around. We get along very well with all of our neighbors and everyone generally has a great time. We by no means stand the entire game but are on our feet more often than the average zombie fan in chair back seats. Early into the game we were yelled at by a few fellow gopher fans to sit down. The group that was complaining even went as far to call security who threatened to kick us out of the game if we didn't sit down. It was annoying and just dumb. I've never been so disappointed with my fellow gopher fans than during that game. People like that should not be allowed to have season tickets. God forbid that the fans are getting into the game to help spring some energy back into the program.

The poll should have more options like
Stand 75% of game
Sit except when have to stand to see plays
Sit 90% of game

What's a key play? I think first and goal for the opponent at our 8 yard line is a key defensive play but many fans would prefer to sit down. Is 2nd and 20 for our opponent a big play? I think it is.

I stand EVERY defensive 3rd down & 4th down....probalby 10 or so plays in a typical game outside of that. Will also stand if people in front are standing and couldn't care less if I stood the whole game.

Agreed. Now it's time to figure out what people define as a "key" play. Every defensive third down is a key play in my opinion.

Note: I'd rather stand for key plays only, but those in front of me stand, so I stand as well.
