Staff

I am impressed by the longevity, stability and loyalty of his staff.

These are qualities that have been lacking in the Gophers football program for a long time.

I hope he brings his staff intact.

Might be nice to hang on to a few of the recruiters. Cross comes to mind.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. If we make wholesale changes to the staff, that means there will be more kinks to work out.

After watching the success of continuity around the Big Ten with the latest example being MSU. A coach that would bring his staff was high on my list. I'm really glad this wasn't compromised.

I haven't seen it yet anywhere. Does anyone know how much we got Kill for? I heard it was a 5 year contract but no idea on money.

I would imagine we get most of his staff. Kill kept two guys on from the prior regime at NUI. I read he has talked with Hammock. Perhaps he will keep one or two guys around.

He has asked his entire staff to come with him, following his MO.

No thanks. We need guys who can recruit AND coach.

Hammock is fine with me, though.

Hammock did a great job the last half of the season, probably will be gone but he would be the one to keep.

If I had a wish list I'd keep Cross, Hammock, and Butler. They are our 3 best recruiters and pretty good coaches too. Hammock got some great experience the last few games of the year calling plays, he might not want to go back to being a position coach.

As for Kill and his staff coming on the cheap. Maybe we can use that extra money to hire a couple extra S&C coaches/grad assistants. I remember brew lamenting he only had S&C coach. No idea how many most teams have.

I think the max number of assistant coaches allowed is nine. Considering Coach Kills loyalty to staff, I expect most if not all to follow.

His OC is also his OL coach, so there might be some flexibility there. I'd love it if they could find a spot for Hammock. He did fine with the RBs and is a great recruiter.

Butler and Cross are really good at recruiting, but the play of the LBs and DL has been pretty poor.

Any possibility that somebody on his staff gets the NIU job? If so, some members of his current staff may stay there and that would create more openings here.

I have a gut feeling that Maturi plugged in a big pay raise for Tubby in the upcoming years' projected budgets and that this is where any savings may end up.
