Stadium Tours?

I've seen some different posts on here about people touring the stadium, and I know that there are a lot of people with gopher connections of one sort or another on here. But I am wondering if there is any way for regular joe fans to get a tour?

I would be willing to pay to do it, and I am guessing there would be others like me. Obviously with construction going on, they can't have people coming in and out all day, but I would think once and awhile it wouldn't bother the flow of the workers. Could be a good way to raise a couple of bucks for the U as well, give some student a work-study job in public relations, and also get people excited about our new gem of a stadium. They could offer a couple of tours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and I think they would get some people coming by to pay 5 or 10 bucks to do it.

If this is not a possibility now, I would like to see it happen by August, when things should be pretty much wrapped up with construction. Don't get me wrong the virtual tour on gophersports.com is nice, but I'd like to see it with my own eyes.

I haven't seen anything on this subject, but does anybody know if this will, won't or could happen?

Stadium Tour

It has been announced (either formally or informally) that before the first game every one will have a chance to view their seats. They feel this will be necessary so there won't be mass confusion at the opening game trying to find the way to their seats, etc.

the tour I went on..and others I assume, were conducted by the contractor. The "U" doesn't even have the keys to the stadium yet. The contractor turns those over in early June. They were proud to say that they were a month ahead of schedule meaning the "U" will have plenty of time to make any required finishing touches.

Since its an active constructions site, you have to wear goggles, hard hats and sign your life away in a waiver. You should contact Mortenson..perhaps they have upcoming tours with an opening (usually corporate but you may be able to sweet talk your way in).

When I took my tour last fall, Phil Esten said that he felt the U would want to limit the tours of the finished stadium prior to the AFA game to folks "invested in the program"...season ticket holders, big donors, etc. There was no final plan, but it definitely sounded like folks w/o season tickets would need to wait until after 9/12. I'm hopeful that they might organize tours for season ticket holders, perhaps to coincide with the fall Fan Fest (or whatever that one Saturday in August during fall practice is called).

IIRC, on Aug 22 ("Fan Fest") the team will be holding its fall scrimmage and it will be played at the stadium. Season ticket holders will get free admission to the game and get a chance to sit in their seats to watch the scrimmage. This obviously isn't a full course tour of the locker room, suites, etc., but it will give you a chance to wander the concourses, check out the view from your seats, etc.

I guess I will have to wait til fan fest in August, and that is what I expected. I hope the U comes to their senses and start giving tours in August or at some point, it would be a shame if they didn't try to show off this thing. We paid for it.

My understanding was that they definitely plan to show it off and there will be public tours...just not before the first game. Also, the Fan Fest plan does not exclude the potential for tours for season ticket holders prior to 9/12...just that it sounds like it wouldn't be that day. No one really knows what the tour plans are or if they do, they haven't posted that info here.

will be going on a tour tentatively next tuesday night with a group of the players as many of them have not toured it since their recruiting visits! will be a great time and I will get as many pics and information as possible

Sunday on Sid's WCCO show, somebody called in and asked why the U hadn't tried to drum up interest by letting people get a look at the stadium. Mona told the caller that the U had some special things lined up for ticket holders, but they weren't ready to announce everything yet.

That sounds like what I was told then (assuming Mona has any idea what he's talking about of course! )
