St. Cloud Times: Local coaches impressed with Coach Kill

Thanks for sharing that Bleed. Good article, good read, and interesting comments from the St.Cloud area coaches.

Go Gophers!!

I do think Brewster did a lot better job of reaching out to the states high school coaches than Mason. The only problem was that Brewster was not able to get the states top recruits each year like Mason. I hope coach Kill will be able to land our top recruit from time to time. Right now it's a tradition in Minnesota that the States top recruit goes somewhere else.

After reading this, I get the feeling that Brewster and Mason shared one thing and that was the opinion that Minnesota kids are a "cut below." Mason was just more transparently condescending about it. Brewster was more out-going and worked much harder to get out and talk to the high school coaches, but the comment about the Wisconsin recruiter being more "genuine" really struck a chord.

Kill's background as a high school coach will really help him a lot.

I think this says it all.

"I think people just want honesty. If a kid is good enough to play at Minnesota, tell us that and we'll do what we can to help get them there. If they're not good enough, tell us that too. When someone is honest with us, that makes a big difference."

I know that both Mason's staff and especially Mason thought they were smarter than everybody else. I know of 2 players that were recommended to the Mason staff and they called, but never visited, or invited, one went to Wisc. and one to Iowa and one is now in the NFL. The other started 3 yrs. for the Badgers. Coaches thought they didn't have the talent. Because they were coaches at MN. and the refers came from lowly HS coaches.

And the top recruit this year would be going where?

I'm liking the responses he's getting from the high school coaches.
