Spring game not at Metrodome as per Shooter

Great news

I never want to step foot inside the Metrodome again.

Anyone know what date the spring game might be held? Last year, it was the final weekend in April, but the year before it was the first weekend in April. I'd love to make it back for the spring game this year, but it needs to be either the first or second weekend....

Great news, this was hinted at before. I can forever seperate Gopher football and the metrodome! I want to forget about the dome more than Lois Feldman does!!!

HS Stadium?

What is the capacity of the Minnetonka football stadium? Or any other HS football stadium in the metro for that matter? It seems odd that we would go this route, although I don't know where else we could go to get a decent-sized stadium unless we took it on the road to St. Cloud or Mankato, which themselves are probably only 10-15,000 seat stadiums.

Personally, I think it would be cool to have the spring game somewhere out-state to get more people exposed to the program.

How many people actually show up to the spring game? Is there really a need for more than 5,000-10,000 seats?

What about the facility at Wisconsin River Falls? If we are going to consider out of state locations, I know the KC Chiefs have held training camp there.

I would hope that they would keep it in state. I would be cool if it traveled around the state though. New location every year. That would keep it fresh, no matter where it goes. Create a buzz around the spring game.

He said out-state like non-metro locations not out of state.

Why the hell would we play our spring game in Wisconsin. Thats just stupid man...

What about St. Thomas? It's close to the U and has an old-school feel. Also has the same playing surface that will be in TCF Bank Stadium. Plenty of standing room around the field if needed and a decent amount of parking (tailgating perhaps?). Just a thought...

New worst post of the year nominee

"Mr. Madison [or insert WestBank08], what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Um...yea...Not only have you suggested holding our Spring Game in another state, you've suggested that we hold it in the state that hosts our biggest rival (IMO), AND you've suggested holding the game at a school that is part of the same system as said rival...Did you miss the UNIVERSITY OF part in front of Wisconsin River Falls???

I'm sure you just misread "out-state" for "out of state" but I'm still trying to wrap my head around why you would say this...

I second that thought. If the U can work out a deal, this is the best place for the Spring Game. And where ever it will be, I hope they don't restrict the fans to sitting in the stands. It would be great if Gopher fans are allowed to stand at various place at various places down on the field. I have been to several St. John's football games recently, and that kind of thing works out great up there.

I never want to step foot inside the Metrodome again.

I swore at the end of the Iowa game that I would never set foot inside the Dome again. That is causing me to look for road trips to see the Twins in 2009, but so be it. I'm sticking to my guns and may take in my first Gopher football spring game this year.

I salute you. The Twins aren't my team, nor would I be able to go to a game this year even if they were, but I applaud that kind of dedication. And I encourage going to the spring game. Hopefully they'll allow tailgating, wherever it's played.

spring game location

St. Thomas, Macalaster, Hamline...

I assume they want to play on field turf??? If so, which field has field turf and which one has the most seating?

I think this spring game will be more attended than years past with the excitement of the new stadium, Marquees Gray, Sam Maresh, new coordinators, etc.

Because Wisconsin can now be considered "In State Recruiting."

Not sure on Minnetonka's capacity but it is significantly less than wayzata - which can accomodate 5,000 - 5,500.

St. Cloud State and St. Thomas both hold approximately 5,000 as well.

I'm pretty sure Shooter is wrong here because I've heard it is a violation of NCAA rules to host the game at a HS (unfair recruiting advantage).

St. Cloud, St. Johns, St. Thomas, and Mankato all seem like more reasonable venues to host the game.

I think UST is the best place.

1. Has field turf
2. Close to campus
3. Home field of CDH
4. Lots of room (both in the stands and on the open side)

I sure hope it is not at the Metrodome. It would be too anti-climactic. It would be like storming out of a room, yelling "... and I'm never coming back!" and then having to come back and get your keys. When we played at the dome, there was an advantage to having the Spring game there, but now there is none.

The dome is sterile enough for real games, for the Spring Game, the dome is like a tomb. But the same amount of people jam-packed into a 10,000 or so seat stadium would really feel like a crowd. And nothing builds interest like scarcity!

so will there be a free shuttle from campus so students can go or is the U giving us the middle finger?
