Nice having the spring game back. Something to look forward to. Hopefully later date gives us a chance for good weather and a good crowd.

What are the odds they actually play it? From what I remember it was canceled more often than not in years when they announced it.

It has definitely not been cancelled in more years than not. Not even close.

I only remember it being cancelled once. Other times it was moved indoors or the date was changed due to weather. They haven't had one for a couple of years.

This is definitely the latest date it has been scheduled, which should give it a better chance to happen with good weather.

Commented before that Kiddo and I attended Coach Kill's first open practice when he arrived. A cold front was coming through and snow squalls were swirling like a snowglobe in TCF. Coach Kill was only wearing a t-shirt with another shirt and shorts and no gloves. We went down on the field for a signature and he was frozen solid. He was a trooper though and talked to us a minute as he was shivering up a storm. Spring can be cruel in M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A.

I guess I'm lumping in other disruptions where they still played the game but it was closed to the public, had limited attendance, or moved it to a weekday.

In 9 years, 2017 was the only Saturday traditional spring game fully open to the public. 2018 was fully open but held on a weeknight due to weather. 2019, 2022, and 2023 were moved inside and closed to fans due to weather, which if I'm remembering correctly at least some of them had weather that you would normally not cancel outdoor football games for. 2020 was canceled for obvious reasons and 2021 had limited attendance.

So in Fleck's tenure they have announced 7 spring games prior to this year, only 3 were open to the public at all, and only 1 was a traditional Saturday spring game open to anyone who wanted to come.

For some reason, the spring game has never excited me. I get it though, its a chance for players to show the coaches what they can do and so forth.

Correct. You asked what are the odds it will be played and claimed it was canceled more often than not. Your excellent research in this post shows that is not the case.

But, yes, if we are talking just general weather disruptions, then there's been many, that is very true.

Maybe having it two weeks later will help.

Who knows. Fingers crossed.
