Sports Huddle with Sid and Dave 10:00 AM 7/19/2015

Sid was on a roll today. He replaced TCF with Memorial Stadium a few times and I think I caught a "George Kill" at the beginning. God bless Sid Hartman.

paraphrasing: Sid started by shilling for the Kill camp today...kids still welcome to show up... Jerry confirmed 175 kids on sat. and expecting 220 today (Sun)
Sid: I saw you watching TCU film in the office, what do you think? Kill: They're very good. Didn't lose a lot on offense. Athletically very talented team. Didn't lose a lot on offense. They got speed. They are everybody's 2 or 3 team in the country behind Ohio State.
5 turnovers and we didn't play well. We were not ready for the speed of the game. Did better with that versus Ohio St when we played them. We are excited to play TCU.
Brings on preparation changes in how we do camp. We gotta make decisions on who will play sooner. TCU is a very, very, very good football team.
We will have our linebackers blitz some and they gotta get there to disrupt things, that's critical but it's important that TC and Hank Ekpe show up. Talked about Ekpe for a quite awhile. Expects him to have a breakout season. He is really going to surprise people maybe something like what Cobb did. Ekpe runs a 4.5 or 6 and he's a big guy now. He'll be really good! Keith and Elmore will get their chances but Hank and Cockran gotta perform.
Sid interrupted with Colorado St. Tough game, good wr, altitude always a concern, beaten colorado most every for four or five years.
no doubt we have the toughest schedule in the big 10.
Preparation: Coach Klein has pushed the kids this summer. we've had to. We need depth. Need some Freshman on special teams to step in.
Playbook: Closer to utilizing it all than we have ever been here. We are more mature. ..more depth...best defense since we been here.
Mitch: Mitch went to Mannings camp and he played really really well. He's got confidence. He knows he can play with anybody now.
He was great! Overall the formula is in place, we just gotta execute.
Redshirt help: Talked about Rodney smith quite a bit. Doing a great job! Under rated etc
Wide receivers gotta step up. Wolitarsky has to have a year and stay healthy.
Probably 2 or 3 freshman will help us on defense and maybe offense too...we'll see.
August 7th practice starts.

Please overlook the spellings. Really, really high on Hank. Mitch probably number 2 and Smith #3 in praise.
Jeff Jones was not mentioned by name and didn't seem like he was one of the receivers he was suggested that needed to step up. No names but led to believe it was Gant, Gentry and Holland he was tallking about.
Jerry was positive in his tone overall and most excited when he talked about those three guys....Hank, Mitch, Smith

It's now gotten to the point with Sid that I view Sports Huddle as comedy. Of course I want to hear the latest Gopher updates, but I also want to experience the show within the show titled: "What will Sid say next"?

God bless Sid, but when his senility is the draw, it's time to go.

The worst thing with Sid is it takes him 5 minutes to say what others could say in 30 seconds. I can't listen anymore.

Hope that both Ekpe and Woli can have a break out year for us this year and can most importantly stay healthy. Will be interesting to see what kind of pressure H. Ekpe and TC can bring with a developing Richardson.

The Jones steam does appear to have slowed down since the spring game where he had gotten a lot more positive feedback than the other redshirts WRs. Maybe that was due to the lingering injuries some of them had during the spring? When looking at the updated roster on gophersports it does appear that Jones did not make picture day this year which is hopefully just an oversight on the web-editor.

Kill is a pretty good motivator that approaches personalities in interesting ways. Some guys, like David Cobb, he didn't need to publicly call out or praise. He rarely mentioned Cobb and to my knowledge never called him an NFL caliber player as he does with some of these guys. He was already a confident player he could count on to perform. I think he looks at Jones the same way. No need to massage an already large ego, or call him out. Great hands, great moves; the only thing that will keep Jones off the field is Jones.

Thanks for the recap in any way shape or form. Without you I had nothing to review. Super thanks!

its Tuesday and That is funny. Thanks for the recap and the comment.

I live out-of-state and heard Sid the other day for the first time in about 10 years. Wow. He's sounding every bit his age.

I know this has been posted about ad nauseam, but why the heck is he still on the air?

So clearly he wants to keep working. I respect that. Does WCCO fear a lawsuit? Is it out of respect for him? Are people turning in because of the novelty factor? Does WCCO feel obligated to keep him around because of his past work? He's almost incomprehensible. Or am I the only huge ****** that thinks this?

The Good Neighbor is probably in a no-win situation.

Or the Evil Neighbor as Cannon would say.
