Today's synopsis of coach Kill's comments on the Sports Huddle will probably be an abbreviated repoort. My wife and I are celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary today, and we have a function to attend shortly after 10 a.m.

Killl's comments:

1) Yeesterday's scrimmage: We'll know more after evaluating film. Did not like some off-side penalties at critical moments. There were teachable moments . . . infant (not baby) steps are being taken.

2) Rallis looks like he had a good scrimmage. AJ (Anthony Jacobs) moved well and Stoudermire intercepted a pass . . . had two minute offense for Gray which continues as a learning process . . . was asked about Ryan Grant: like all players, learning the position and new techniques and system.

3) Friday's scrimmage will be under the lights. Gates open at 6:45 p.m. The free scrimmage will start at 7:20 p.m. Likes visitors at the practice, they make the players practice harder and better. Inviting students and recruits to the scrimmage at TCF Bank Stadium.

4) Josh Campiion has done an outstanding job.

5) "The kids are trying hard and working hard. (Wants to find out who wants to play.) I've been hard on the kids. I want them tough, hard-nosed and want to compete. Not trying to run any players off the team . . . we're too thin in numbers."

6) A lot of players are thinking and not reacting . . . but it's getting better.

7) Academics: "We'll know more in three weeks after finals."

8) Talked about the importance of special team play, which is a very important facet of the game.

9) Said Marcus Jones had a good practice/scrimmage yesterday.

10) Caller asked if there's a chance of Alipate changing positions: He declined to go into specifics . . . a lot work and evaluation ahead before they'll know about players changing positions.

Go Gophers!!

Random Kill Thoughts from Sports Huddle

A few items caught my attention this morning with Coach Kill on 830:

1) Josh Campion: "He's gonna be a great player." Kill loves his attitude and work ethic - his yes, sir - no, sir approach.

2) Beal is doing "allright." Thinking a lot which is slowing him down.

3) Lots of emphasis on the punting game and kick blocking ... believing that a great punt can be one of the biggest offensive plays in football.

4) Counting on Royston as "you can't replace six years of playing college football." And, Royston is throwing himself around in practice but he's still not in the kind of shape he'd like to be in.

5) Mona asked about Edwards switching from RB and Kill was very hesitant to say anything but he did reference several good backs they already have and several more coming in next year.

6) Thin at WR as stated often this spring.

7) He's not trying to run guys off -- "We don't have enough" -- but the "moment of truth" is coming in a few weeks with grades.

I listened to the vast majority of the show and I gotta say that whether Kill succeeds or fails here, I feel like he's a good guy who is a good coach. That may or may not translate into the Rose Bowl and he may go the way of other coaches here .... but what an entertaining guy to listen to. Makes you want to have him over to grill burgers and drink beer and talk football.

He's certainly the genuine article. He is one of those individuals most people naturally like being around. I would be very surprised if he didn't succeed here.

Thanks for the update, DL65. Congrats on the 35th! That's a real milestone.

Coach Kill, I'm sure you won't read this, but congrats on 35 years! I really hope I can achieve that milestone one day.

I've been married 35 years too--just not to the same woman. :)

That's 2 weeks in a row that Kill hasn't come right out and ruled it out. Interesting.

Bennett, Eskridge and Kirkwood are all running well. Edwards seems to have the most speed and runs hard but I'm not sure he sees the holes as well as Bennett and Eskridge. If Edwards develops a little bit, sees the holes better and does well at pass blocking he could be the number one back in my opinion. If he doesn't, well... you never have too many good, fast linebackers.

I'm not reading too much into it. He may be 90% sure that Edwards stays at RB, but there's still a possibility he moves to LB down the road even if it's not a very good chance.

Congrats to Kill. I've been married just over 1 year and I hope I live long enough to reach 35 years.

Do people even read before they comment? Or do they not comprehend what they read?

Happy Anniversary Dr. Don.

This is a ticklish moment for all involved. Edwards is big, and fast. Bennett, Eskridge are neither. They are the most experienced. They have the been through a couple years of whatever. They are the upper classmen. To insert Edwards could cause them to shut down. Question what it was all about. We cannot have that. Edwards bides his time, and it will come. Late in a game, needing to protect a lead. The key running series. Runnning when they load the box. He has to prepare for that. It could be a key series on the goal line. What better place to have a battering ram. So selected, key series for Edwards. And from that the self apparence of Edwards as an every down back. Maybe late this year, certainly next.

Pretty sure people said the same thing about george bush and we know how he turned out...

Better Question Is.....

Wait, I thought this thread was about Kill's 35th Wedding Anniversary... how did it evolve into talking about RBs?

How did this thread evolve into a discussion on Kill's 35th Wedding Anniversary? DL65 began the thread by saying "Today's synopsis of coach Kill's comments on the Sports Huddle will probably be an abbreviated report. My wife and I are celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary today, and we have a function to attend shortly after 10 a.m." No wonder a lot of kids are not doing well on standardized reading tests when many of their parents seem to have no comprehension skills.

Now I am beginning to understand why there is often a great deal of confusion at the GopherHole as to what topic is that being discussed and what the commenter actual said. Maybe we need to schedule remedial reading classes for the GopherHole now.

What a coincidence! Both Jerry Kiil and Dr. Don celebrating their 35 wedding anniversaries in the same week.

.....either that or sarcasm detection classes.

Nice little rant you had going there. It was cute.

Unless you were being sarcastic too...

Dr. Don and Jerry Kill are married to each other??

How has this not received more coverage?

I don't think anyone said that about Bush, he was not very entertaining to listen to, in fact terrible when answering questions, and this response is beneath you. If you have doubts about Kill, how about addressing them directly? He is about as similar to W as he is to FDR.
W over delegated and trusted his staff, if you have watched one Kill practice you know he trusts his staff, but he does not over delgate anything, ever. If you want to compare him to Presidents he would probably be more like Truman or Eisenhower. He is involved in everything. He may not get us to the Rose Bowl, but it will not be because he was not prepared for the job. W was unprepared for the job, as is the current resident of the WH. I can only wish the last two Presidents had any idea how to hold someone accountable and get squabbling staff lined up the way Kill does.
He is a real leader, if he can get the players he will win.

What a coincidence! Both Jerry Kiil and Dr. Don celebrating their 35 wedding anniversaries in the same week.

After reading here about secret planes landed with the new coaches I no longer believe that there are coincidences, just bad rumors, entertaining as they may be. Was it a coincidence that both Jerry and Dr. Don shaved off their mustaches this past Saturday?

DL65, Coach Kill, and I are all celebrating 35 years, and we all shaved off our mustaches on Saturday. What coincidental events.

Dr. Don and Jerry Kill are married to each other??

It's true.

We all know that Kill wasn't Dr. Don's first choice... but what most people don't know is that DL was Dr. Don's first choice.

And now for something completely different: The Larch
