per DeCourcy:
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany talked about how it isn’t necessary for the most powerful college conferences to have a separate division within the NCAA, or to leave the NCAA altogether, to be accorded the power they want. Along the way, he said something that was borderline inspirational.
“We don’t want to leave the NCAA. We don’t need a ‘Division IV.’ We can be in a big tent, if we can get an appropriate amount of political redistribution,” he said. “We can have a tournament, everybody can be in it, we can do revenue sharing. We can all brand together. We can all be Division I together.”
“We don’t want to draw lines and put certain people in and certain people out,” Delany said. “We don’t want anybody else’s money. We don’t want to change one of the great events in the world. But there has to be a recognition that we have some existential threats to college sports.
“I think the changes would be, in many ways, permissive. So if you have the resources, do it.”
