per Sporting News:
Minnesota is not a team to mess with.
Still unranked, despite enjoying a 23-7 record this season, Richard Pitino has his Golden Gophers squad clicking on all cylinders after beating Nebraska 88-73 Thursday for an eighth straight win.
The most difficult task for Pitino has already been accomplished. He took a young, scrappy group of overachievers and made an NCAA Tournament team out of them. Now, both Pitino and the Golden Gophers have reached March in uncharted territory.
Winning in the cold, winter months can be easy, as teams separate themselves from the pack within their conferences. Minnesota proved that was the case for them during this torrid stretch. But winning in March against unfamiliar teams will be difficult.
It may be a longshot, but Minnesota certainly has the team-chemistry and talent to go on a deep NCAA Tournament run if everything comes together.
If they do, there will be two Pitino legends currently in the college basketball ranks.
