Dan is very insecure about his appearance.

Back in 2004 I e-mailed him asking what the hell he had against Glen Mason, who he used to rip constantly. I asked him if it was because Mason made more money than him, hard more hair than him, was better looking than him, etc.

I received not one, but two ballistic e-mails back from him, calling me GQ guy. He basically said how stupid I was for talking about his appearance and not how smart he was. How I was a loser for having my life controlled by a bunch of 18 year old kids every saturday afternoon, and how he was far above that. Went on to say that the Gophers are totally irrelevant and will always be before boasting that he has a position and a "forum" that I could never touch and that I would be stuck grinding my life out in a cubicle wishing I had what he had. Went on to say that I blew it and that he would never answer my e-mails again.

52 minutes later, got another e-mail of similar nature, buy mostly on how low I was to talk about his looks and again how smart he was and how he was much better than me because of his income and the forum he had.

I e-mailed him back asking why, after a life in the media, why he hadn't developed a little thicker skin?

That was the end of our communication.

i wish the balls in my softball league were as fat as the questions he asks good ol glen when he has him on his program to update his hatred of the gophers. id rather listen to a timberwolves game broadcast then that baby.

Wow, really shocking that he responded like that since you initiated the dialogue on such a high road, you know, insulting his appearance and income.

Half me being a creep, and half trying to understand his hatred for Mason. I don't know if you recall, but he used to be relentless in his harsh criticism of Mason (on a professional and personal level). That particular day he was going off about the Gophers and how they never had come remotely close to the Rose Bowl. My e-mail to him pointed out that they had indeed twice came quite close to the Rose Bowl, before my immature final questions.

Surprised I got an e-mail back, even more surprised at the second one, meaning he sat there stewing mad for almost an hour before he decided that he hadn't let me have it enough. Good times.

OK, I'll bite. When were the 2 occassions Mason came "quite close" to taking the Gophers to the Rose Bowl? His best 2 finishes in the B10 were a tie for 4th in 1999 and 2003.

Before you answer, please do not say 2003 when they lost to Michigan in the meltdown game at the Dome. They had 5 games remaining after the Michigan game. You can't assume anything beyond that, especially given the program's history of letdowns after a big win. Saying they would've gone to the Rose Bowl had they won that game is absolutely ludicrous. It's like saying the Vikings would've won the Super Bowl this year had they beat Arizona on the road.

He didn't say Mason's teams got close to a rose bowl, Dan B said MN had never been close when in fact we have been to 2 and won 1.
