I couldn't believe my ears.
First he talks about how the head coach (Childress) isn't responsible for the majority of losses. It's on the players (ie bad punt, line protection, lack of offense production, leaky defense).
Secondly he stated how tired he was with the whole Favre vs. Childress agrument and that its been blown out of proportion and that every head coach and qb argue.

Huh.
Soooooooo
Is Brewster still responsible for the losses and poor production like he continually writes and speaks on the radio about? If he uses the same logic to give Chilly a free pass, why doesn't Brew? Especially when Brew is in only his 3rd year and Chilly has 8 pro bowlers and at the end of his 4th year?

Does the whole Brew vs. Maturi spat still need to be talked about? Is it beyond a reasonable doubt that the head coach of a D1 football team, who makes more than his boss, has an occassional argument with the AD?

It was so obvious how Souhan talks out both sides of his mouth and that he really does have something against Brew. Sorry for another Souhan post, but I couldn't believe my ears at how he lacks any sort of perspective.

The guy works for a dying newspaper, has no redeeming talent or observation power, and is looking for a niche that will keep him employed. He's a POS.
Take note Doogie, DON'T BECOME SOUHAN, he sucks.

The vikings are a popular money maker, he can't piss off the fanbase like he does with us, he'll get run out of town. Even Reusse pulls punches when it come to the Vikings.
Gopher football is an easy target with no teeth to bite back and a large skeptical fairweather fan base, it's cynical gold and he knows it.

Negativity sells

Was listening to ESPN the other day and they were talking about "Shock" talk radio in sports. They thought there was an epidemic of it. Those were the guys that get noticed.

The key in the media now is to smell the trend and follow it. There's still some credence paid by the media to informing and promoting better information, but so much of the media--especially in sports--is all about opinion over fact and tries to cotton to the new national pastime of smack-talk.

Souhan is a joke. He has an obvious Pro bias and seem insulted to have to cover college sports. Chilly is an excellent team organizer (look at the structure and players he has brought in), but he is a very weak coach. His defense is strong because he hands it over to Frazier. He thinks he is an offensive master mind (kick arse offensive), but he is very predictable and defensives always know what play is going to be run. What saves him is the talent they have (most of AP's yardage is from back cuts or racing around the end, can you ever remember a play where AP had a "Mack Truck" hole to run through!!! He would have 2,000 yds if he ever had a hole to run through). Chilly has also mellowed out and has become friendly, joking with the press.

On the other hand Brewster has probably has gotten sick and tired of being ridiculed and having his players criticized/mocked by the press. Everyday you hear those guys making fun of the Gophers and belittling there accomplishments. All of the good major college programs have a very team family orientated organization and a rah/rah coach like Brewster. I suspect that Brewster doesn't kiss Souhan's asre and thus the relationship is strained. When was the last time you have heard any good college player interviews on any of the local stations?

Souhan was the idiot that thought Lane Kiffin would've been a great hire at the U.

Funny, he hasn't said anything about all the secondary NCAA violations Kiffin has chalked up at Tennessee. But he would be the first a-hole to call for his dismissal if that happened here.

Souhan is an idiot and that is why i stopped reading his articles. Wish he would get fired along with fat pat

I stopped reading him a long time before Brewster got here. I stopped reading Barriero back when he was writing because of his negativity, and then Ruesse later. At least those two could write. Why would I read Souhan? Unlike Ruesse and Barriero (in his day) Souhan is a crappy unimaginative writer. Writes boring pieces and tries to save them with a trite off hand comment, rarely relates to the premise of the article, so you're left with a punchline without a joke.

Wonder what he's going to do/say when the Vikings move to LA in the middle of the night.

It's not 1984 anymore. The era when something like that could happen is long gone. It's laughable now. It would be all over the internet and twitter not to mention ESPN days if not weeks before it happened. It could never be kept a secret.

For the record, are you one of the minority of misguided Gopher fans who dream of this day and all the glory you think it will return to the program? Or do you more rationally realize the Vikings leaving would be bad for the entire state?

What will these local sports writers/djs do if Brew does have success at the U? Well, at least the unlistenable Matt Thomas is gone.

It's simple, they either don't acknowledge it and wait for a bump in the road to jump back on and say "I told you all so", or the make one statement of crow eating to make up for several years of program bashing.
It's really sad actually, that their is literally not one sportswriter critic in the TC area that will admit they were wrong and turn course toward positivity. At least the fairweather fans will jump back on board when a team wins. Make no mistake if for example we upset USC next year, we'll see an influx of supposed "lifelong Gopher football supporters" Take count right now, supporters of the program right now are true fans.

If a radio host without any listeners leaves is he truly gone?:cool03:
