The Gopher recap is on C-12. The " last " page of the Strib Sports Section. It is so pathetic that it is laughable. The " Little Darling's " of course have 5 full pages. Yes I'm beating a dead horse, but you would think at this point in the season the 7-2 Gophers would merit at least some additional coverage versus the 1-7 Darling's. Talk
about being entrenched! I'm glad the U fired off that tweet about the best football team in town. Absolutely ridiculous.

What was it in the Sunday paper? Don't they typically have the Gophers on the front of the sports section on Sunday, and the Vikings on Monday (or Tuesday if they play a Monday night game)?

I could be wrong, and trust me when I say I have a strong dislike for the Strib, but that's just how I remember it being.

A large picture of Rick Pitino was on the front page of Sundays sports section for a Gopher Basketball preview. Gopher football had front page, but a narrow column that ran all along the right side. Then one or one & a half pages of coverage on the interior. I will look again when I get home from work.

This Just In: The Vikings are more popular than the Gophers and the Star Tribune needs revenue.

The paper is there to make money not cater to the less popular football team.

Nothing wrong with that. It's Monday, not Sunday. College Coverage, in every area with a Pro team always takes a "back seat" on Mondays and the Strib has been doing it for years. A full back page devoted to College Football on a Monday, with a half page story on Gopher Football and notes?

That's perfectly acceptable.

The Gophers had 100% of coverage on the front page of Sunday's sports section.

For those counting at home, Sunday is 210,000 circulation newspapers larger than Monday.

Go Gophers!!

Don't bother Mr.Bigelow, that's just about right, and good coverage to boot!

Saturday's paper covers the Gophers game that will be played that day, Sunday's Paper covers the Gophers' results and the upcoming Vikings game. Monday covers the results of the Vikings. There will be more coverage during the week, but it is a little early in the week for the papers to talk about the Penn State game much.

Whoa there hoss. IMO no 1-7 team deserves 5 pages of coverage, and I don't care what day it is!
They also grab 2-3 pages of coverage during the week. Who buys the Strib? It is not the new generation boys. Surprise!!!!!!!! It is the baby boomers who buy the hard copy. The new generation hacks up a story or two off their I-Phones. We also know the heart and soul of the Gopher fan base are the baby boomers. Right or wrong, they are the ones that " buy " the paper. Do the math my fellow holer's

We go over this every year Ruppert. I can promise you, the STrib does the math every day. They know what their readers want. The two busiest days in the Star Tribune's web site were the two days each Summer when Favre signed the first time and when Favre signed the second time. Those got more site traffic than the day the 35W bridge collapsed, more than the Franken/Coleman recount, etc. I wish the Gophers were the main draw like Nebraska is in Lincoln or KU in Lawrence, but it is what it is. Do the math Ruppert.

Go Gophers!!

One more reason to quit giving the Strib your business? Until Soupcan is gone, no one should even consider reading that trash? Even after Soupcan is gone, I might not go back. I don't miss it all.

Bleed....You're talking hits on a web site. I'm talking actually buying a newspaper which is a lost cause among the new generation. Our neighborhood in the Nisswa area has about 16 households.
About half of those buy either the Brainerd Dispatch or the Tribune. We've neighborhood yard parties and I can tell you for a fact that it is the Baby boomers that order either paper. Circulation has dropped to the point that the Strib and Brainerd Dispatch combind to do one carrier.
You could cut the Viking coverage in half and nobody would give a damn because they could pickup
Whatever was written on the Strib web site. Bleed.... How many 25-30 year people do you know that actually buy the Tribune? Our 4 kids are college graduates and range from 23-32 years old. They don't buy the paper.

The star tribune knows what's best for its circulation. I have gotten that email, read it from Bleed. The Star Tribune knows all and tells you what you need to know. Their gatekeeper website which limits your viewing, is yet another way to increase circulation, relevance, and revenue. Add to that they have the best columnists in the nation, experts in each field. Need to know, just ask them. And with professional teams its best to put the best light on them, no matter how miserably they perform. Oh and yes, it boosts Sunday circulation to bury the story of the University, have a columnist attack the coach, cause outrage from the state, and do nothing. Yes, they know what they are doing, just let this go. Let them drive the star tribune bankrupt. Oh, that's right they did that.
