Ironic that we are beginning our first season in decades with an outdoor stadium... with an away game in a dome.

They didn't want the first home game in the TCF to conflict with the State Fair. Hence the second game had to be the opening game.

I know that. I'm simply saying that of all the opponents who could have been the first game, it's a little ironic that they should be Syracuse, one of the few teams with a domed stadium.

It will just make the first game in TCF that much more fun and exciting for the players and the fans!!

Maybe it was done to remind the players how much it sucked to be in a dome on a nice September afternoon. That way they'll know how good they have it when they take the field at TCF.

I have been wondering if the team will have a practice in the Metrodome to prepare for the atmosphere in Syracuse.

I wish we weren't playing Air Force in the home opener. It would be nice to play against a team you could really root against and have some clever cheers for. It will be kind of hard to boo and rip on kids defending the country.

I know Syracuse former Season Ticket Holders

Who recently gave up on Season Tickets that they held for over 40 years. They point to the Glory years in Archbold Stadium. Syracuse abandoned Archbold in 1978. And took up an offer of a dome. Sound familiar? Sure they had some success after 1978, but were never the same team. Some trace the decline of Syracuse and the rise of Penn State as a they drew on a similar talent pool. The Syracuse of old featured legendary running backs that rival the tradition at USC.

Here is a glimpse of Archbold

I would suggest they need to return to the outdoor game if they hope to have any success. Syracuse in the fall is meant to be outdoors. Winter in Syracuse is beyond description. They get hundreds of inches of snow.

Husker bet you never played in the ice and snow !!!!! I didn't like it.

I loved playing in Ice and snow.

You really learned about yourself and your teammates in those weather conditions. Guys dropping passes so they could get off the field to warm their hands. I think inclement weather really shows desire.

Never played in the ice and snow?

Been there done that. My feet still shiver thinking about it. It is a more primal game. The blows glance off the slick uniforms, the plastic seems to moan. Steam coming out of your helmet. You are not as fast, a little less sure footed. Getting a push in the Oline is diminished. But it doesn't really matter the defense cann't get traction. I can remember digging turf out of my helmet. Its a completely different game. I think the indoor track teams, dome teams have more trouble in the elements.

I would argue, play outside. Embrace the weather. If you can use it as an intimedator or 12th man, all the better.

My point, as it was with Gophers playing in the Dump, they sold their souls to play there. And had no chance of relaiming them until they returned to campus, played outdoors. It happened here. How long will it take Syracuse to discover this? The Orangemen play football in band box built for Jim Boeheim. Its been 40 years since they went indoors.
