My buddy picked this up on one of the Wisconsin sites. I almost spit my coffee up.

Well, that was one ugly game, although, if you like defense, there was lots of it. Impressive win for Iowa nevertheless.

Duke definitely showed that Wisconsin is beatable. I still don't know whether Wisconsin is worse than expected or Duke is just much better than expected. I was only mildly sorry when Tyus Jones didn't commit here. Now, after seeing that game, I'm really sorry. On the other hand, maybe not, he doesn't look like he's going to be around very long.

I would gladly accept Iowa's boring and/or ugly win over North Carolina, in Chapel Hill.

Much more so than I'd take pretty, "Doggone it, I like me" wins over the likes of Western Carolina, UND, Southern U, Seattle, Furman, and UNC-Wilmington.

Iowa's road win in Chapel Hill will carry more weight with the NCAA Selection Committee than 10 of the Gophers' non-conference wins combined.

Another instance in which you're being rather critical in odd spots SS. I didn't/forgot to respond to our other thread where I asked if you were ok, so I'll do it here.

I've just noticed that you're getting overly critical and much more like the masses than I usually observe you to be. I don't think this team is as flawed as everyone is making them out to be, however, I do think they are currently quite flawed. I feel it's got a lot to do with attitudes and some mental weaknesses we knew some of our incumbents already had, however, I feel Pitino will work through them.

As far as the scheduling goes, I understand the argument that its a weak non con schedule, but as other posters have pointed out, had the NIT tipoff turned out as expected, we'd be sitting in a much different spot. Not to mention there are other things on the horizon (Big East Challenge) that might make Pitino timid to put another home and home on the schedule while he's rebuilding the program.

I might be overreacting, but I just think it's odd to have you closer to the masses in terms of level headedness. I think it's mostly related to the seat licensing, but I could be mistaken.

Chin up SS, things will get better! We level headed fans cannot afford to lose your membership in our elite clan!!

At this point, there is nothing that can be done about the remaining non-conference schedule (by the way, to this point, Sagarin rates the Gophers' schedule strength at #29). The bottom line is that the Gophers need to put together a good conference performance, probably 10-8, to be considered a likely tournament team. There is a very recent example of a team making up for a poor non-conference performance. Last year Nebraska had four losses in non-conference but put together an 11-7 conference record.

I'm not sure what people expected from the NIT tipoff. I figured Louisville would be us in the opening game and we might lose to Gonzaga in the final of the NIT while beating St. John's. Instead we lost to St. John's but beat Georgia. Either way, we'd have two losses although our quantitative ratings might be marginally better. Some people expected us to beat TCU in football too but I never did.

We should end the nonconference with the same record as last year. Remember last year we played a good game while losing to Syracuse but were pounded by an unrated Arkansas team and finished the non-conference with only one win against a power conference team at home. This season we have two wins against power conference teams and both of them were on the road. We just have to do well, probably 10-8, in the Big Ten.

The fact that it didn't have the same #/level of teams as we expected and we dont have Gonzaga as a non conference opponent as we had hopped.

Thanks. If I'm sounding like the lunatic fringe on either end of the spectrum, please bludgeon me. Perhaps I need to tone it down and lay off the "home non-con schedule" thing. ... I've beat that drum enough (at least for this season), and obviously nothing's changing.

This team can get a lot better. Am banking on that because I haven't been particularly enamored with what I've seen, collectively, so far.

My buddy pasted it and forwarded on my computer.

Oh you're just jealous and envious. It's okay to have a mentor. Tell you what, meet me at the next Gopher outing and I'll sign your cap and explain the circle of life to you. You guys amaze me. I've been jerking your chain all these years with bombastic statements and posts and the only one that seems to know it's all BS is Dr. Don. Except for Dr Don, gullible is alive and well on the hole.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Your bombastic statements have to be true. Nothing makes sense anymore. I'm going to have to rethink everything I've ever been told. What a bombshell!

As it should. Early feeling (as we don't look anywhere near a lock for the tournament) is that our awful upcoming schedule will catch up to us in the end. We better win the next 6 games without any hitches.
