I've read Mike Riley is at the top of the list, I've also seen Jack Del Rio's name floated out there.

I'm thinking they should be looking at the Fiesta Bowl coaches Gary Patterson and Chris Peterson.

Will possible sanctions scary any big names away?

Thoughts?

I've heard that will either be Del Rio, Jeff Fisher, or Mike Riley.

Fischer ...really??

Why would he leave the Titans and if he was fired....he would be on the short list like Shanahan and Cowher are for an NFL job?

I don't know. It was reported by ESPN today (he is a USC grad).

Fisher has expressed interest in the job before, but i'm not sure he would leave a promising TN job at this point.
Del Rio has also expressed interest.

the problem is that AD Mike Garrett is an idiot. he will pick someone from his buddy list, and probably short change the university on what should be a premier hire. the recruiting class is going to implode, and it was looking unbelievable.

oh well.

I don't know how promising Tennessee really is. They're pretty much the Chris Johnson show and that's about it. If they're going to need him to carry the ball that much just to be mediocre he's not going to last long, which means they're going to have to depend on 'ol Vince more and yeah. Not good.

Might be time for a change for, Jeff. Get out of awful old Tennessee, relocate to Southern California and live the college life. Sounds pretty good to me.

Ron Prince for USC.

Any chance Steve Sarkisian gets offered the job?

Mike Riley, for me, is the Kirk Ferentz of the Pac-10. He is consistently going to bowl games and finishing near the top of the conference with average talent at best. I'm not convinced that Riley would be the right fit for USC just like Ferentz would not be the right fit for Notre Dame or Michigan. I think Sarkisian is the right guy but I don't know if USC can steal him back from Washington after one season.

might be

a job nobody wants. Its just me I guess but I think there is big trouble there and the lid could come off.

Done deal

Carroll to Sea
Riley to USC
Peterson to Or State

I'll bet every BCS AD is going to watch the Carroll job switch and try and track him into their program. Scen 1. Carroll is fired in 2 years and Maturi offers BB Pete the job to coach maroon and gold.

Carroll to Sea
Riley to USC
Peterson to Or State

None of these are done deals, in fact. Not a one.

And who's "Peterson"? Adrian? I don't think he's interested in coaching just yet.

Interesting timing, Oregon St is now offering Mike Riley a lifetime contract.

Riley has said, many times, that he will stay at Oregon State "as long as they'll have me." Of course, we all know how much that means coming from any coach, but Riley could be different.

He grew up and played quarterback at Corvallis High School while his dad was the defensive coordinator at OSU. He already left OSU once, to go to the bright lights of the NFL for a failed three-year run with the San Diego Chargers, and knows how fortunate he is to have gotten a second chance in Corvallis.

I'll bet that Riley has learned his lesson and will say no to the bright lights of Los Angeles this time around.

One poster on the USC scout.com site stated that Riley was interested at one point, but then heard about what USC was facing in terms of sanctions from the Pac-10 office and it proved to be a deal breaker. Nothing definite in that statement as it is just a rumor on a message board, but certainly the idea is floating around that USC could be facing major sanctions and that could be a problem for a lot of possible coaching candidates.

Riley and the school agreed to a three-year contract extension that runs through the 2019 season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sarkasian bailed on Washington or Washington State, wherever the hell he is.
