Does anyone else think that they might have made a mistake by putting the entire home side upper deck in the shade? It was 78 degrees today and we were cool in the shade in sec 245. Its gonna be really chilly in the shade when the temp drops. Was there a reason that they didn't put the press box/indoor suites on top of the opposite side of the stadium (so that the sun would shine on everyone)? Would there have been a glare? What gives?

NO!

78 degrees in the shade and you were cool? Should have picked the other side of the stadium - the sun has always shined from the south. If you're cool now, you'll be dying in november...grow a pair and dress accordingly

Luke, is that you?

I'm sure the biggest reason is so that the home sideline is not looking into the sun all game. The fans in the shade on the home side of the stadium will just need to add more layers.

This first season will be interesting. I sweated my *ss off on the visitors side today. I think the sun will be nice come October and November but wearing the appropriate clothing this first year will be a learning experience.

Absolutely right. The little warmth that the November sun will provide isn't worth sweating in September. Add in the sun shining in your face while you're trying to watch the game and it's a no-brainer. There's a reason that the shade side filled up first.

If 78 in the shade makes you chilly, I'm not sure you belong outside the home.

It is six of one, a half dozen of the other. I was sitting in the corner of the home side and I have a sunburn on my face, and a sweaty azz to show for it. I told my wife on the way to the "game" that we might be in the shade from the overlap of the second deck. As we both sat their fanning our faces in the second half, she looked at me and said, "I thought you said these seats were in the shade". It is the nature of outdoor football in the midwest... September's treasure is November's hardship, and vice versa. You can always put more layers on. You can only take so many off.

I couldn't help but be reminded of the last game I attended at Memorial Stadium. It was a very sunny day in September. I can hardly freaking wait until September 12.

My maroon Carhartt hooded jacket, tan bibs and snowmobile boots are ready to go. What will be a pain is the raingear.

I'm very easy to please, there was a helicopter hoovering over the stadium during the scrimmage....AND I COULD SEE IT!

Ironic that we finally get an outdoor stadium and they put half the fans in the shade, out of the glorious sunshine.

Will you be in the shade for the 11am kickoff?

I guess you can move next year. I bet there will be plenty of people willing to move to the home side.

We were in section 117 in the glorius hot sun---it will be just perfect as the weather starts to cool. Plus the reality is most of our games will be either 11:00 am or 6 pm evening games and not 2:30 during the hot part of the day like today.

I'm sunburned all to hell and you were cold. Gosh, we sure feel stupid now. Outdoor football sucks. Maybe the Dome will take us back.

I seriously can't believe you're carping about the stadium after the first-ever event. You should be in awe over how effing sweet it was and instead you're puling about something that any sixth grader could have told you: due to our position in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun will generally follow an arc through the southern sky. Truthfully, the probable reason they built the premo suites and press box there was to give people the option to sit in the shade, if that was their preference.

My mom was in the shade and perfectly comfortable in a sweatshirt. I was in the sun and got burned and enjoyed every second of it. I love this stadium.

Love it! I sat in 212 in the blazing sun all day. Outdoor football is a beautiful thing. Some days might be less "beautiful" but this what it is supposed to be outdoors on-campus!

What?!?!?

What?!?!?

Outdoor football. Home side. Sun not in eyes all day.

What?!?!?:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I have applied 3 coats of "after sun" on my face since 10 pm last night. And you know what?
It is FANTASTIC!

Same. The right side of my face is a brilliant shade of red. I'll probably have melanoma in a few years as a result. And still, yesterday was the single greatest sporting event of my life. Getting suburned and dealing with the elements are what college football fandom is all about. God, I can't wait for the season to start!
