Slam Magazine: "Wally Ellenson proved to be the surprise player at the event"

per Slam Magazine:

"Wally Ellenson, a Minnesota recruit, proved to be the surprise player at the event. He landed a dunk that sent the gym into a frenzy when he tossed the ball behind his back, caught it in mid air, and did a 180-degree, two-hand slam. He advanced to the second round and may have moved onto the championship if he landed a 180-degree, between-the-legs dunk while coming around the rim."

Go Gophers!!

I would love to see him and Godney, just dunking all over fools. Phi Slamma Jamma part 2.

I think this had to have been the first time two Wisconsin kids competed in the competition. Oddly enough, neither are playing college ball in-state.

The knock on JP when Bo was recruiting him was that he didn't have much of a perimeter game...that and his strength have greatly improved. He will be a solid contributor at UNC.

Congratulations Wally on your excellent performance at the recent slam dunk event. Next stop - Midnight Madness at Williams Arena.

Don't get me wrong, I love an athletic throwdown in the lane, and I'm excited for Wally to join the team, but I'd be even more excited if this kid can stroke a mid-range jumper at 45%

I'm pretty sure he has a decent shot. We aren't dealing with a Rodney Williams type perimeter game here. Plus he'll probably red-shirt, so he'll have all freshman year to perfect his jumper.

maybe we can soon be called "Lob U" ala Clippers self proclaimed nickname. Rodney, Trevor, Joe, and Austin Hollins, and now Wally have mad hops. hopefully will all be on the court next year.

At the same time? Idk about that...

Completely agree, but I wouldn't expect 45% for a year or so. I'm hoping he becomes a big time 3 point threat also. I'm really excited about both new recruits.

Go Gophers!
