OK it's not the axe, but the Gophers really did a job on the Badgers this weekend. Ladies won in basketball 84-77 for the 8th straight time. The hockey team swept the Badgers including a 9-2 blowout last night. The men's track and field team won the duel meet at the U 88-72. You can smell the road kill all the way down 94.

We gotta get the Axe, or even better somebody get the Slab Of Bacon back!

Those lying scoundrels, they said they've lost it. They are all dead now.

Isn't the slab of bacon on display in their museum? I thought I had heard that.

The hockey wins are great and it's nice the other teams won as well. However Les is right. 99.9+% of the population only cares about two sports.

UW hockey has moved into a -pay to play roster instead of a team selected by coaches for ability/effort. it's a dark period for the badger hockey fans as eaves trots out 3rd and 4th lines that cannot complete a simple Boston Crab. Sat. night was a thing of beauty for Gopher fans- tape to tape passes and execution all night long. watching almost every single rush to the puck come out maroon and gold.

Nice to see the Men's Hockey rack up the scoring but hard to get too excited as watching that game I saw Wisconsin players take out their own players via inadvertent hip checks / collisions a few times. It was hilarious and yet sad.

Most Minnesotan want to beat Wisconsin (college or pro).

If the Minnesota-Wisconsin Tiddly-Winks match was televised, it would get a great share.

Count me in that 99.9%. I only care about football and men's hoops.

I am sure some badger trolls will make their way over here, but serious question what the hell happened to their hockey team. Two years ago, they were pretty close to us in talent. I know some scouts in the USHL and NAHL and they're absolutely dumbfounded by who the badgers are recruited at those ranks. Especially the instate Wisconsin talent, they say there's usually five or six players who aren't even getting D1 looks who are better. Eaves has won their and had good teams in the WCHA, just seems strange. I know Big Ten hockey isn't great, but if you take the sport out of the equation. I would think going to the U or Madison, Ann Arbor or East Lansing would be better experiences than St. Cloud, Duluth, Bowling Green or Mankato.

This year we are winning the axe baby!!!

It's really very simple. Suboptimal coaching has led to suboptimal recruiting.

I think your numbers are way off.

Nationally do people care much about college hockey, not really. Especially if you get outside of the midwest and northeast. In Minnesota though, there is a pretty big following of Gopher hockey. They sell out 20 games at 10,000 seats each game and get decent ratings on TV. Clearly in this state at least there is a big Gopher hockey following. I've been on Gopher hockey road trips where there are 2,000 Gopher fans in attendance too.

Gopher football had 366,000 total home tickets sold last year, and Gopher hockey had 200,000.

The below shows the discussion (on this primarily football/bball message board) to be way off, even though these numbers are a small part of the equation.

Where is Macturi when we need him. He would be all over this.
