Just watched the first two "Brick by Brick 2014" episodes while mending an extension cord.

As has been posted previously these are great for fans...high production values that really at least for me get me going.

This has me thinking it's high time to re-elevate the cheer, salutation, and chant "Ski U Mah" back to prominence for Gophers football.

For me I'm going to work at offering Ski U Mah as greeting and/or goodbye to fellow Gophers, exclaimed as a point of pride at opponents, and yes it's a cheer at the start of the home games.

If you know the history Ski U Mah was inspired by a Sioux battle cry. That's the intended usage.

Can't wait for Thursday. This is the year of Ski U Mah!

Go Gophers! In Kill We Trust!

I think Kill and his staff have done a great job emphasizing "Ski U Mah" since they came on board. It has been included on player helmets and I always see recruits tweet the phrase if they are being recruited by Minnesota or have committed to the U.

A couple of years ago I started to replace “Go Gophers!” with “Ski-U-Mah!” as my standard greeting when encountering somebody in Minnesota gear when traveling. On Gopher related road trips where I tend to run into other fans there for the same reason, the response is overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic. Random encounters with someone in a University of Minnesota shirt or cap unrelated to sports travel (e.g. Disney World, an airport, etc.) gets a positive response about half the time and a quizzical look the other half.

I hope it catches on since it’s something that is unique to Minnesota.

First step to me to really popularizing Ski U Mah would be to replace the "Go Big Gold!" chant at the end of some of the band cheers with Ski U Mah. Why we ever started using a generic 3 syllable cheer when we have a unique one is baffling to me. The last decade I feel like there has been a resurgence of Ski U Mah on stuff which is great to see.

I wasn't even aware the band did "Go Big Gold". I would support changing that to "Ski-U-Mah". We here in Minnesota are all too often ready to discard our own traditions in favor of the generic.

I think third down is the best time for Ski-U-Mah. You can keep yelling it over and over again, and people can join in.
