Was it just me or was the Ski-U-Mah chant awkward and forced last week??

It actually started off with some momentum, but there was an obvious disconnect between the leaders on the field and the PA announcer. I think the cheer has some merit....and would be cool if it wasn't only tried two times. It should be rapid fire and led by the flag leaders on the field. The crowd will pick it up.

The PA makes it feel forced and unnatural. Let's get this cleaned up. Please.

It's the announcer's voice. He's absolutely awful. He must be the child of a used-car salesman and a small market TV news anchor. Anything that comes out of his mouth sounds incredibly faux-enthusiasm. He just sounds smarmy, smarmy, smarmy like he's faking it. No one listening to him thinks he is geniunely excited about the chant, and that's contagious.

I could understand having the announcer help with the first round, but after that it should be left to the cheer team to keep it going at their own pace. Waiting for him to start each round seems to slow what is essentially an easy cheer. I say let the cheer team do their job of leading cheers and getting the fans going, it's not his job.

If you want to hear awkward and forced then you should have been there when they tried to do it at the barn two years ago. Without the announcers help it is an utter failure.

Agree completely. Jamie may be great at hockey games, but this is football. Shut up and tell us the down and distance and ball carrier. I give up trying to end the first down chant because the band and students have made that cheer work, but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LESS JAMIE!

This was discussed on GopherHole 30 minutes after the game ended. But I'll give my $.02 again. I'd like a fast, repetitive Ski-U-Mah chant like USA. Easy, catchy, and no assistance needed.

Why does this topic keep coming up here? You can't force tradition and if you could this chant should be about #15 on the desired list.

You can't force it, but you can derail it by trying to fill every second with music and advertisements and having the PA guy annoy everyone while leading it.

They try way too hard sometimes. I actually didn't hate when PA guy led it ONE time, for the first game. Then he broke out the "noise meter" and led it a second time. Annoying, but the crowd was trying. I thought to myself, if PA guy shuts the hell up, and the flag wavers speed up a little, this thing just might take off. But nope, they stopped and PA guy told us we did a good job. Thanks PA guy. I'd say about 50% of the operations in and around TCF stadium is still amateur hour. Sad after 4 years, but I'll keep coming back because I enjoy it and assume it can only get better.

The new Good Question lady on ch4 had a segment on it last week. She pronounced it Skee U Mah

It's not catching on.

"I hate Iowa" is never forced and never gets old.
