I found it interesting that coach Kill said according to DL65 that “this year's recruiting class (2014) will not be a big one." DL65 also added that "however, he wasn't exactly sure how many tenders will be available.” Right now, per the attached scholarship grid site below we have 10 more scholarships slots available. Of course it is possible and likely that there will be a few transfers and even an academic causality or two. This will increase that number of scholarships by a few, but it does appear that the roster is pretty stable at the present time.

Last year coach Kill seemed comfortable with the potential of 20 scholarships but I would be surprised if this year’s class exceeds 16. It is also certainly possible that it will be less than that.

Because this will be a small class it should be interesting to see how they manage the process again this year. I do find it comforting knowing that they are always very focused on what they are doing and that they never stop working. I also like it that it appears that they have contingency plans for a variety of scenarios. Since it is a limited class they can't afford to make mistakes.

I'm not going to look it up but Coach Kill said something along the lines of 10-12-14 scholarships available last year at this time. We got to 20.
What's even more impressive is the quality and number of walkons. Didn't he also say the number was and will be less than it could be in part because of rewarding some walkons with scholarships? It's a fluid, moving, constantly changing number. When it's all said and done, it'll likely be very similar to last year in 2014. We won't know until February.

85-x=y

With x being the number of current scholarship players as of February, 2014.

Y represents the number of 2014 recruits that Kill and staff can sign to a scholarship tender.

I'm thinking that's how many scholarships Kill and Co. will have by signing day.

Sorry bro, but these are the most tedious of threads...zzzzz.

The " X factor " is the number of walk-on's that are awarded scholarships. For new recruits, I think
number will be around 14.

Claeys said DBs will be the priority for this recruiting class. They wanted 4 last year, and only got 2. With 3 seniors graduating this year (Vereen, Shabazz, Baltazar), I'd be surprised if they don't end up with 4 on signing day.

Other than that, I think most positions are wild cards and they will adjust how many guys they take based on how good of players they can get. Ed Olson is the only scholarship O-lineman that we lose, and with the number of young lineman on the team, we could be ok with taking 1-2 but would obviously take 3 if we could land commitments from Ragnow, Mayes, and Hassenauer.

The time to start replenishing the offensive line depth is now. The youth at o-line allowed us to go light last year with only Alex Mayes getting a scholarship. You can't go two years in a row with only 1 offensive lineman per year. That's what Brewster did and it screwed the team down the road.

I'd expect something like this: 1 QB, 4 offensive skill players, 3 OL, 3-4 D-lineman, 2-3 linebackers, 4 secondary.

Yeah, you're right. We've got 5 O-lineman that are juniors, which is too many to replace in one class. Better to add 3 this year and 3 next.

It's not the size of class, it's how you............
