First: the connection between Boise State and Baylor: Sam Ukwuachu.

It is the elephant in the room, and not just at the Cactus Bowl, but around college football. Sexual assault and violence against women is a major issue in the sport, many still handling it incorrectly.

In the last two weeks, Minnesota considered boycotting the Holiday Bowl after players believed there was a lack of due process in the suspension of 10 teammates following a sexual assault investigation, and a shocking tape of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon punching a woman was released.

This spring, three Boise State players were expelled or suspended after a Title IX investigation. None had their sentences repealed, and they are no longer with the program. Coach Bryan Harsin said he believes the school has been proactive in preventing and punishing acts of violence against women...

...Boise State and Baylor, facing off in the Cactus Bowl on Tuesday (8:15 p.m., ESPN), have never played, but have one obvious connection. Sam Ukwuachu played for Boise State in 2010-11 before being kicked off the team.

He transferred to Baylor, but never played. In August 2015, he was convicted of sexual assault for an incident that took place in Waco, Texas, two years prior. He served two months in jail and was given 10 years probation.

How Baylor responded to the Ukwuachu case, along with other allegations, led to coach Art Briles being fired in May, and the school’s athletic director and president both resigning.

Second: Boise State expelled two players this spring and upheld the punishment on appeal this summer following a Title IX sexual assault investigation: Yes, lawsuits are threatened.

The father of expelled Boise State football player Marquis Hendrix said his son's appeal has been denied, but the family is apparently not done fighting.

Hendrix and fellow Boise State football player Donzale Roddie were both expelled in May following a Title IX sexual assault investigation, while football player Darreon Jackson was suspended for a year.

The three each appealed the decisions independently, and were informed this week that the appeals were denied and the original rulings stood. Jackson did have his suspension reduced from a year to one semester, according to Jack Hendrix.

Third: there are similarities between the Boise State investigation and Minnesota's

Boise State documents obtained by the Idaho Press-Tribune on Thursday show the three players were the focus of a Title IX sexual misconduct investigation that spanned several months.

According to the 68-page document detailing the investigation’s findings and recommendations, a female student told Title IX Director of Compliance Annie Kerrick that she was “coerced into performing oral sex on members, or in one case a potential member, of the football team” during separate incidents on August 19, September 26 and October 2.

Hendrix admitted receiving oral sex from the female student during the investigation, but denied that she ever said ‘no’ during the encounters. According to the documents, Hendrix “stated multiple times that he never forced” the alleged victim “to do anything and that she never indicated to him that she did not want to have oral sex.”

The female student admitted to investigators that she had “an intimate relationship and consensual sexual encounters occurred” with Hendrix, but said on five or six occasions she was not interested in performing oral sex but that he “tried to intimidate and control (her) using force pressure, and through repeated texts.”

Alleged incidents involving Roddie, Jackson and a recruit on an official visit were also detailed in the documents. All three Boise State players denied any wrongdoing during their interviews with Kerrick and Krysti Wyatt, a Title IX investigator.

The Boise Police Department said Thursday that no charges were filed against the three players, and that no report was ever filed. They confirmed that no investigation is currently ongoing as well.

Wow. I thought the U players were railroaded by the lack of functioning justice system. The BSU one seems even worse. The girl was 'forced' to perform oral sex over a multiple week process. How is this kind of thing allowed?

Well I am guessing there was probably some evidence of harassment at least with the digital trail that was left behind.
