Thought about not signing up for another year but Kill has me thinking things will get better. Wanted to up grade but the gal on the phone said that they would call us to let us know what options were available for us to upgrade to instead of us requesting a certain area.

I thought this was a little different. Maybe they are trying to sell some to of the higher priced upgrades.

They are waiting until the renewal period is over. They don't know what will be open until the renewal period ends. You will be given options to upgrade or stay where you are. I assume they use Gopher Points as a priority. Be patient.

Careful how you upgrade - if the program turns around that mandatory donation fee to sit in some of the good seats will definitely double in time.

Never thought of that. Thanks for the heads-up! I don't know if we want an upgrade in price. More of a change of seats. We are right behind the Gopher bench and the players block the view of what happens when the play is on that sideline. We were looking to go higher in the same section so we have a better view of the whole field. I like sitting behind the bench as we see a lot of interesting interactions of players and coaches. We already give a donation fee for those seats. We are around the 32 yard line. If we moved over just a little our seat price would double. So we certainly don't want to do that.

I renewed for another year as well. My buddy and I have 4 tickets together and we decided to give Kill one more year. If this year sucks as bad as the last two, we plan to drop our tickets and buy tickets to only the games we want to see. When your team sucks, its no problem getting into any games. I figure I prefer watching losses to NDSU and USD on tv, because at home at least you can turn it off...

I can't imagine not going to Gopher games even if they do suck.

There is nothing like seeing a game at the stadium. That Iowa game last year was one of my greatest Gopher memories. My wife looked at me as I was clapping my hands...watching the kids pour on the field and said "Are you crying?" Being the tough guy that I am ... all I could say is "Yup." It was the first time I had witnessed a big rivalry win. It was great.

I would not even consider not renewing. Based on my experience of the last 25 years, I figure there are about 40K fans that will support the team no matter the record or how frustrating it can be to participate as a fan. This is not a professional team; it is my alma mata, they will never move, they are in my blood. Wins and losses are important but visiting the campus and surrounding area 6-7 times a year and reliving college days with old friends are what the football experience is all about. I have visited other big ten and SEC venues and had this discussion, and I know many people feel the same that I do, although the programs they support have certainly been more successful than ours in terms of wins/losses. I hope to see a great turnout in Vegas, my wife and I will be there with friends who also bleed maroon and gold.

Sparlimb, you are really a thoroughbred, true blue, full time band wagoner of a Gopher Fan.

I've never figured out why so-called Gopher "fans" are so pusillanimous. I have had my own season tickets since 1999, and I've missed maybe two games. We just went from 4 to 6 tickets, all in the license area. We're members of the GLC. It's a lot of dough "gross," but it's well worth it. The experience, the interaction with players, their parents, the coaches and staff are second to none in the world of sports. Gopherfaith and I pay for it as a vacation--that we get to take on 7 weekends, plus the usual road trip. This year its Vegas and the bowl game.

Yeah, we haven't had a ton of success in my lifetime (52 years), but between the Gophers, Lakers, Vikings, Twins, North Stars, Wild, and Timberwolves, we have a total of three Championships and two teams have relocated. Except for the Gophers (and Wild--but give them time), the others have threatened to leave town multiple times.

I believe there are heady times ahead with the Gophers. I want to be there for every home game and every bowl.

I would never not consider to not consider to not renew.

Terrific post highwayman. Great points about the pro sports. Good stuff from Redbird, Spaniel and Bayfield too.

Cheering for the alma mater is just different, and for me that means a lot more fun.

I had to look up the word pusillanimous.

I never went to the U of M. However, I'm 56 now and since I have been 12 years old I followed the Gophers closely. Carried a little radio with me so I could listen to the games. Always dreamed of playing for the U but the reality of it was that I was a D II player and played elsewhere. It never stopped me from following them my whole life. Hope they get things turned around.

That's so Bandwagon!

Although I have a degree from the U, the other 3-season ticket holders in my party do not (i.e., wife, brother and son but I do hold out hope that one day the latter one may have one?!?). Anyway, my point is this... this is their team along with everyone else in the State just as much as it's mine. Unlike the pro teams in town that like to threaten to leave town from time to time, the U is staying put no matter what. If you think about it, the U and all its teams are the most logical ones to get behind and support. Hopefully, more people will make a connection to the U like they do at many other schools throughout the country. In the mean time, I will continue to renew my 4-tix and support OUR team!

Go Gophers!!!

Go Gophers!

I don't have a degree from the U either. One of my oldest memories is listening to the Randy Breuer-era Gopher hoops teams on my parent's Zenith radio when I was about 6 years old. There's 5 in my party and none of us have any ties to the U, other than we're all native Minnesotans who love college sports. The thing that keeps us coming back is it's absolutely the best value in season ticket ownership (in my book). It's a great way to guarantee we get to hang out at least 7 times each fall. Factor in parking, beers and food for 7 games and I spend well under $400 for the season. Can't beat it.

If I still lived near Minnesota, I would have season tickets year in and year out. Unfortunately, I can only get up to about one game a year which I look forward to for a whole year. We may not have a lot of success in the past 50 years, but you have to support your team.

Unless finances are the reason, I didn't even know that not-renewing was an option or consideration.

Go Gophers!!

You're an absolute joke as a "fan". Sadly, this piss-poor attitude can almost be considered "good" by Gopher fan base standards. At least you're paying for season tickets even though you're bitching about it and basing your support on wins and losses. Many "fans" do the latter without even considering doing the former. So - kudos, I guess?

Just a guy with 4 kids and ample places to spend my money. Sorry if I don't live up to the "true fans". but frankly I don't give a sh*t.

I renewed for the 35th year despite that I now live 1,000 miles away. One of these years, one of these years...Rose Bowl.

I haven't missed a game yet at the Bank and will renew every year. I was in Pasadena last month, and stopped by the Rose Bowl and took some pictures, imagining a return trip on January 1 sometime in the next few years when Kill gets this thing turned around.

"When" not "if" that happens I bet you will see the Rose Bowl filled with so many Gopher fans. A long time coming.

Does this help?

Ha - yeah. Learning is fun.

And to be clear: no disrespect/slight whatsoever intended for fans that didn't happen to attend the U. It's a minor detail, but a big part of what keeps me coming back. Seats filled with gopher fans watching their team win games is the objective here.

I would never not consider to not consider to not renew.

You forgot to include Nebraska on your rod trip list. Just saying.

pusillanimous. well done and nice work on the adjective front. and yes, unfortunately true regarding some of our fan base.

What an awesome post. I swear my feet didn't touch the ground for a week after that game. I wouldn't trade the gophers for anyone.
