• The combined 2015 win-loss records of Gophers 2016 football opponents is 71-73: Oregon State (2-10), Indiana State (5-6 in the FCS), Colorado State (7-5), at Penn State (7-5), Iowa (12-1), at Maryland (3-9), Rutgers (4-8), at Illinois (5-7), Purdue (2-10), at Nebraska (5-7), Northwestern (10-2), at Wisconsin (9-3). Clearly that’s a much easier schedule than they faced this past season.

Go Gophers!!

Take out Iowa and Northwestern, and the combined record of the other 10 opponents is 49-69. Take out Wisky, and the combined record of the other 9 opponents is 40-66.

Prediction: If Gophers go 9-3 next year, expect a deluge of columns from Reusse, Souhan et al that "The Gophers benefited from an easy schedule."

Go Gophers!!

Oregon State was very bad but only lost to Oregon 52-42 the last game of the year. Could be a trap game.

The first game of the year is always kind of a trap game, especially with coordinator changes, in this case we changed OC and they changed DC. There are a lot of question marks in prepping for this game, the term 'trap' might not be the best way to describe it, but it's still a dangerous game.

And if teams are roughly the same next year as they were this year they won't be wrong to say that. Next year we do have the potential to benefit from an easier schedule, in the same way that Iowa benefited from an easier schedule this past season.

If we are not 3-0 when the BIG season starts it will be a major disappointment. From there we have a really favorable BIG schedule so the opportunity will certainly be there for a nice year assuming the team continues to play well and move forward.

But did those same people cut us any slack for having a lot of injuries and playing one of the toughest schedules in the country in 2015? Or just "no excuses," and stuff about how 5-7 teams going to bowl games is a disgrace? I honestly don't know, I don't read very much that doesn't get posted here, and didn't even read much of that toward the end of the season, so I don't know Reusse, Souhan etc.'s opinions on the 2015 football season looking back.

Hey, Iowa didn't get any love from us this year. Why? Because the played a schedule so soft, charmin was jealous.

But they still went to the rose bowl regardless of what anybody says.

Besides, particularly in college football last year's results do not predict next year's performance.

I certainly wouldn't overlook Oregon State. I watched them a couple times and they certainly didn't seem like a 2-10 team

The Gopher needs to covert the iowa-like-schedual to a 12 & 2season, a place in the B1G Championship game and a trip to the Rose Bowl for any praise from reuse, et al, I would be SO thrilled if the Gopher could match what iowa did last season! Easy schedule or not the Gopher would have to have one of the BEST seasons EVER that the Gopher has had for a LONG time to match what that stinking hawkeye did last year. Hope it can happen! But, it will take one hell of as great season to get that done. Don't kid yourselves kids...the schedule looks easier right now...and I think it will be...but, that is a LOT of games to win in Big Ten Play. There is still Nebraska...NU...iowa...wisky...PSU...and a few others. You have got to play the games to WIN the games and they all look pretty damn winnable in January of 2016 when the games won't be played until September, October and NOVEMBER of 2016...

Your predicting the same thing that many on GHole said about Iowa this year.

Will next year's scedule be easier than this year's scedule?

I'm sure it will be, but by how much? And before anyone starts predicting that a 9-3 record should be the minimum and anything less will be a huge disappointment, consider a few things.

Who here thinks Oregon St is only going to win 2 games next year? Who thinks that they were that bad last year?

CSU gave us a game last year. Granted it was up in Colorado and the next game will be a home game, but I doubt the coaching staff will take the game for granted.

Going on the road to play PSU is not going to be easy. They may have only win 7 games last year, but they had to play OSU, MSU & Michigan, along with a surprisingly good Temple. And who was there Western Div opponents last year? They are going to be a tough win, if we can beat them?

Then Iowa will probably come down to earth a bit, but enough to let us beat them at home? Maybe? Probably not, though.

I doubt the Illini are going to just lay down for us, and Rutgers and Maryland gave a few teams good games last year. It could be just our luck that we get them on their best day and lose.

So IF, we can manage 8 wins to this point, the final stretch will be brutal. We first have to go on the road to a Nebraska team that trounced us last year at home. And they were easily the best 6 win team in the country last year with wins over MSU and USC and the road pummeling of our Gophers. Then NW beat us easily last year as well. And finally, frigging Wisconsin, who only needs a win next year to pull even with us in the overall head to head record.

I think we'll deserve a Top 25 ranking if we can go 9-3 vs that scedule next year, as long as those 3 losses aren't total pummelings.

And like Iowa, some team could rise up and surprise everyone.

I don't know if it is a trap game, but even as Jerry said before he left, the Gophers aren't good enough to overlook anyone.
