Sid says that Kill said that "university has already sold out its ticket allotment"

per Sid:

Kill said reaching the Citrus Bowl already has done wonders for the Gophers, because the university has already sold out its ticket allotment. He was asked if he’ll allow his players some time to enjoy being in Orlando in January.

“Sure, I think it’s a reward for our players, but at the same time it’s important to us that we do a good job in the bowl game and prepare to win,” he said. “So there will be an opportunity for them to do some things, but we’ll carry on a pretty good workday. … We’ll try to keep to our usual routine, but again, they’re not in school, so we’ll use some of that free time without school, where they’d have to go to tutoring, to have a little fun.”

Kill also said that when he was coaching at Southern Illinois from 2001-07, he’d gone to Missouri to visit and learn from Pinkel. Now Kill is the Big Ten Coach of the Year and Pinkel is the SEC Coach of the Year, facing off in the Citrus Bowl.

“It’s a great privilege to be here, and it’s great for our university, our state and certainly our football program,” Kill said.

Based on the reports we had of 5,500 tickets being sold yesterday it seems like a pretty big jump to suddenly have all 9,000 sold out. If that is true that is awesome but it wouldn't be the first time that Sid hasn't been totally clear on the facts.

Well if Sid says so then I guess it just must be true and accurate.

You can still buy tickets in 6 or 7 different sections on the Gophersports.com website. We should not be telling people they've sold out of their allotment when we still have about 3,500 tickets to go.

My guess is his source is the same one that said we were going to the TaxSlayer bowl. With age comes wisdom - it just hasn't caught up with Sid yet.

Sid: "So coach, how are the ticket sales going for the bowl game?"

Coach Kill: "Going great Sid, we've sold a lot."

Sid's Jottings: "Coach kill says the Gophers have sold their allotment of tickets for the bowl game."

According to the article his source is Coach Kill. We either sold a TON of tickets yesterday or Kill is mistaken or Sid has grossly misquoted the coach and needs to write a retraction/clarification.

^^^ easy call

Yeah, I hope someone clears this up. Otherwise people who would have purchased tix through the U will just start looking at stubhub.

It's not too difficult to confirm this ... just go to www.mygophersports.com and you can see exactly what sections are sold out and what sections have tickets remaining. Sid REALLY needs to retire - like 30 years ago!

This^^^^^^made me laugh.

Sid says that Kill said that "university has already sold out its ticket allo...

He reported the Gophers would be playing in the Holiday bowl. Perhaps he is referring to the Gopher allotment for the Holiday bowl, which most certainly currently is at ZERO.

This wouldn't suprise me. Sid Hartman is 8 years older than Williams Arena. Williams Arena opened in 1928. Sid born in 1920.

Based on Student tix not even being on sale yet, it is probably a pretty accurate claim. I don't think the general public has had access to the 9000 allotment either.

That's a great stat, thanks for sharing. Yes the inaccuracies and mistakes in Sid's content get tiresome, but I'll be damned if we aren't going to miss him like hell when he's gone. He's had an amazing career, and still has a passion for life at his age that many never have.

That being said, simple math from gophersports.com tells me this 'sell-out' is complete shenanigans.

You are correct about the bowl game. I misquoted Sid!

If the public can still purchase tickets from https://www.mygophersports.com/online/BowlCentral#, how is it a pretty accurate claim?

I don't know, I'm just guessing knowing that Student Tix go on sale at noon today. Also do we know where the 9000 seats are located? Are they any 9000 seats or a specific assigned 9000 seats. Are the indoor club seats part of the 9000 available? Lots of moving parts and ways to get tix. Is the band going? How many tix are being given away by the program?

Ummm pretty sure the 9,000 seats are the ones the U is trying to sell. The school/conference has to eat the cost on whatever tickets out of the allotment that they fail to sell. That is why the BIG negotiated the required ticket sale number down to reflect the difficulty many teams have in getting large numbers of fans to travel to these bowl games.

Do family members buy off of mygophersports.com?

The 5500 sold might just be the tickets sold through mygophersports.com. There might be a whole lot of tickets held back for player, coaches and department staff to buy. In addition, I think the school's tickets they comp out and the band's tickets are in the allotment, too.

Family members that are not part of the travel party buy their tickets just like everyone else. My guess is that they have already factored the travel party, band and others into the tickets sold number (and I am sure those also count towards the 9,000).

The bottom line in all this is that Sid was definitely wrong in saying the allotment is sold out but it does appear that sales are going very well.

Sid is most definitely incorrect. Still, good sales to date. Down to club and upper deck available through the U. Almost certainly outpacing Mizzou in sales through the universities, as they still have chunks of tickets you can buy on the Plaza Level in the red zone.

Are you guys really arguing over a SID quote? Seriously, might as wel be arguing about what the mayor of Atlantis said on the day before his city slid into the ocean. Could be anything, might not have happened at all.

Point Taken....my apologies :)

Yep, Kill just experienced one of the challenges that is unique to Minnesota. You have to deal with the reporter who has been covering the Gophers for 70 years.

I love Sid. He's a close personal friend of mine. I remember as a kid listening to Sports Huddle with my dad.

Considering that Sid probably writes nothing more than a general outline for his column with some verbal input (in person and from his 1977 era tape recorder) to produce the column, there is no excuse for this factual error getting into the paper today.

The same Star Tribune staffers that create the text are responsible for doing some verifying some of the non-opinion portions, and that was not done in this case.

These comments are just reality, and not a rip on Sid Hartman, a guy that is approaching 95 years old doing things on a daily basis that many 70 to 75 year olds would have zero chance of executing once a month.

So Sid has said that the U is currently going to build the football facility at the end of the month, we're going to the Taxslayer Bowl and the U has sold all 9,000 of its allotment of bowl tickets.. These all must be true
