Had to go back over 30 years but Sidney got Lou in there!:drink:

• While Claeys has the lowest salary for a football coach in the Big Ten at $1.4 million, he does have the potential to earn an additional $1.25 million in bonus money based on various conditions. That’s the third-highest potential bonus earnings in the conference, trailing Kirk Ferentz at Iowa and Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. Last season Claeys made $157,942 in bonus money.

• As the Gophers prepare to face Purdue, one thing worth noting is that the Boilermakers have the third-worst turnover differential in the nation at minus-12, and the Gophers have the fourth-best turnover differential at plus-10.

• When Lou Holtz was coaching the Gophers, he and former Iowa coach Hayden Fry were trying to get the Minnesota State High School League to stage the all-star game at the end of the season when players are in game shape and ready to play. They are finally going to do this with Eden Prairie coach Mike Grant coaching the south squad while Totino-Grace head coach Jeff Ferguson will coach the north. The game will be at U.S. Bank Stadium on Dec. 3.

Lou showed up in MN for like 5 minutes but god damn Sid is going to make all 5 are relevant to everything that ever happens.

Had not heard about the all star game but like the idea. Good for those kids too as it may give some of the smaller school guys a chance to show what they can do.

Claeys would have to win the CFP to get the $1.25 million. I think right now Claeys is safe for another year and will get a token contract adding a couple more years. How safe to me depends on if he gets a significant raise. He was behind Hazell by almost 3/4 million. His replacement is bound to make more. If we extend Claeys does he get another million a year to get him at a rate similar to his fellow newbies?

Or with our luck, a chance for our in state recruits to get seriously injured.

Remember that MSHSL has archaic rules about participating in all-star games. They often screw with your eligibility in winter and spring sports. I am unaware of this rule changing, and if it hasn't, this won't be much of an all-star game...

They'd be better off, given that this game takes place in December 2016 and under the old structure it would've been in June 2017.

This is flat out false on a number of levels:
1) Participation in an All-Star event (exceptions being National Development type / Junior National type teams) makes one ineligible for participation in that sport. Since they are Seniors and they've played their last fb games for HS careers....it is a moot point,

2) MSHSL recognizes All-Tournament Teams only (in some sports) and this is due to Corporate Sponsorship $$ from Wells Fargo. They have nothing to do with All-Star games,

3) All-Star Games, All-State teams (excluding AP), Academic All-State teams are, more often than not, driven by the respective Coaches' Associations or other groups,

4) Shift from summer All-Star game to the December All-Star game iwas probably (just my personal opinion here) due to: lack of interest in participating athletes after they've signed / committed, a mutual respect for multiple sport athletes heading into winter / spring seasons -- which seem to be diminishing as years go on, and the realization that it provides greater exposure for the kids if its held closer to the end of the season.

This is a positive change for the HS football players of Minnesota and look forward to attending a great day of fb at US Bank Stadium.

Buck is correct. One of the driving factors for moving the All-Star Game (organized by the FB Coaches Association) to December is so the best players (D1 recruits) can participate. Under the summer format, the D1 recruits were generally not available because they were already in school and preparing for the college season, or their colleges didn't want them to participate due to fear of injury.

Of course, there is a risk of injury for players involved in Winter sports (hoops, hockey, wrestling), but I suspect that most players who are invited will participate. And, the game will be at the Vikings' stadium - not at St. Cloud anymore, so should be more media attention.
