Sid claims no one wanted the AD job when Teague was hired. Claims people think you can't win here, mentioned Louisville's AD as having stated that to him.

If no one wants the job, all the more reason to not hire a search firm and hire someone in the department or who expresses interest. Someone that wants to lead the maroon and gold.

Sid and Reusse both said that Kaler wants to hire a firm and make a hire in the spring when the pool will be bigger.

Reusse was real skeptical of Sid's claim that it was a "bad job" and people think you can't win here. Though his only counter was "then why would they give raises" to the Head Coaches if they thought they couldn't win?" Then Patrick demanded that Sid mention the names of some of the Athletic Directors who told Sid it was a "bad job". Sid said "the guy in Louisville Tom (Jurich) and Barry Alvarez. Reusse didn't have an answer to that..

This makes no sense and just plays into our MN sports insecurities. History is loaded with programs who "would never win" that turned into powerhouses over time once they got the perfect hire. Rubs me the wrong way when someone says a B1G school can never win...we have most if not all of the resources anyone would need to win if they want to advance their career and make a name for themselves. Saying no one can win here is a pretty easy scapegoat response in my opinion.

Somebody should probably tell Sid that we have had back to back 8 win seasons. Does he mean championships? If so, he may be right but then we can probably eliminate 75% of the jobs in the country.

Go Gophers!!

You mean Norwood's approach, "You don't know me but how about we have a drink and you can write me a check for 10 million" wasn't that successful?

Last B1G FB title or co-championship: 1967. 48 years ago.
Best men's BB seasons wiped out due to NCAA infractions.
AD just forced to resign after sexual harassment. School is being investigated for possible Title IX violations.

Yep, sounds like a plum job to me.

Look - I agree that things are looking up for the FB program, but 8-win seasons are not going to turn MN into a team that is on the national radar. The FB team will be judged on how it does in the key games (TCU, OSU, WI), and whether it can win a bowl game.

Point being, I can understand why possible AD candidates look at MN and see a job with more challenges than some people might want to tackle.

Reusse followed up by saying Glen Mason wants the job and has Lou Nanne in his corner.

The discussion was perception when Norwood was hired. Perception at that time was you couldn't make progress at the U of M because of politics/administration. That perception was changing with the facilities plan and progress on the field in football. Jerry Kill has been the face of University of Minnesota athletics...not the athletic director. The decisions that Kaler and the regents make will slowly shape our perception to the masses and their leadership has been subpar in the handling of the Teague scandal imo. Bottom line: no A.D. can accomplish anything without administrative support...not just lip service...true support. It ain't there yet. The person dragging them forward is Jerry kill.

Back when Wacker's defense was getting whacked, Sid kept saying MN can't win because we're too far from the best football talent. He said we couldn't hire a coach better than Wacker. His attitude has hurt this program more than it has helped over the years. Now he wants OB to be the AD and he told Mona he won't even talk about other candidates. What kind of idiot goes public with who should be hired? This only pollutes the process. He is an idiot and he's a racist bastard who gets on the back of the one black guest who appears on his TV show and won't let him talk. He never does this to any other guest. Does anyone else see this? The guy is an outright racist.

Did you ever see Sid go after Dark Starr. Sid is very equal opportunity when it comes to the Sports Show.

As far as the bold; No one listens to Sid anyway.

Go Team!

Is this a surprise? Don't know if it's true, but surely not a surprise. What was Glen's relationship with the alum? I know he had a very large part in the new stadium, but was he actively involved with any successful money laundering raising?

Sid always says no one wants the job when truth be told lots of people do, they just can't say they do lest they jeopardize their current job.

Maybe the problem with Minnesota Athletics has been the people that have been making or influencing the decisions the past 50 years or so. I think Sid may be the curse of the program. LOL Which means things are bound to turn for the best sooner rather than later. Damn I'm funny

Sid covered the Gophers when every one else had given up. There wasn't an army of people excited about 84-13. And calling him racist is silly. I get he is a cartoon for the young folks, but when he is gone, you will have Reusse. And pat won't make it to 90. The next generation is Paul Allen, and worse. Mackey and Judd? Meat sauce? Developing sources and telling stories is a skill.

I'm guessing you are at least 80.

I'll take the under.

And if he is, so what?

So what? Nothing at all. Don't get all wrinkled up about it. I was joking that typically the only folks that defend Sid as a quality reporter grew up reading Sid. That's all.

He'd get my vote. He went through the misery years with Maturi after being hired by Dienhart He knows his way around the inner circle of the Twin Cities and the infrastructure within the athletic department. He would be a good hire. And for you naysayers he has a great relationship with Kill.

I would disagree. Glen does what is good for Glen. His smarmy side turns off a lot of people.

I hope not.
