per Sid:

Attendance at the Gophers game was announced as 10,175, which included the public season-ticket holders and student season-ticket holders, but a good guess would be closer to 7,000, with students limited to about 500 with finals starting that night. Attendance for both Gophers men’s basketball and hockey is considerably down from last year.

So is performance.

Even 7,000 might be a little generous for the Chicago State game? Thought it looked well under half capacity, 6,000 tops?

I looked at that crowd and said, "Tonight is my night to win the Caribou Coffee gift card." I didn't win, but my chances were pretty good.

And I thought it was the night my wife and I might get nabbed for the Kiss Cam. We pretty much had the area to ourselves and we weren't far from the cameraman. Since I'm not a big fan of PDA, I was quite relieved.

Holy Man and I would have GONE CRAZY if you'd been on the kiss cam!

+1. Hoops was expected, Hockey is becoming a freaking joke.

yep. hard to be a hockey school with the team's recent performance. not even a wrestling school anymore either. we're running out of men's sports we're good at

Makes me respect even more what Brad James did when he was here as the men's golf coach. He freaking won a NATIONAL TITLE at a COLD-WEATHER golf school. Probably the single-most impressive national championship the U has ever won, much more so than even the undefeated women's hockey team.

So how do we get people to games that pay for tickets? I split season basketball tickets and can't fathom either not attending a game or not selling/giving away my tickets. Obviously the people that have better seats than me (more money) probably don't care about skipping a game. So should the athletic department incentivize those that attend/have their ticket scanned? They can't really decentivize those that don't attend because we still want their season ticket money. Any good ideas?

Good question. The U has made it clear they don't care about actual butts in the seats. They care about selling season tickets to the people and corporations with the most resources, even if it means they come disguised as empty seats for the lion's share of the home games.

Eric Musselman would fill the Barn and have us in the "Dance" by year two,or maybe year one.
