Sid: On campus sources say Gophers to Holiday Bowl

Thanks for the reply Buck. I just want to see what's best for the gophers and playing an SEC team gets us the most exposure IMO.

Here is what you will hear about them (I've watched them 2 times): they are a team to watch for next year and the reason they didn't beat / compete like USC historically has is because they get winded and depth is lacking due to scholarship limitations. I've heard announcers say that in both games I watched so I'd expect that to continue.

Agreed. I will say this........Coach Kill's teams have progressively created an identity that they are going to go toe to toe with you, not back down (regardless of who you are or the conference you play in), and be extremely physical in doing so. IMO, it started with that Texas Tech Bowl Game. I'd like to see us go up against an SEC team and see where we stack up. And, selfishly, I'm going if in Florida but can't if in CA (date of game and budget affect this). Really hoping it happens.

The lost to Illinois I am afraid is the difference between Holiday Bowl and a New Year's one.

San Diego wouldn't be as warm as Tampa or Orlando but I would think it would be a much better place to spend 4 or 5 days. Staying at the Del should be on everyone's bucket list, add a Gopher game to the trip with a stay at the Del and you couldn't do better.
Staying at the Del Cornado is a reason to go to San Diego, awesome underrated beach front and nice sun.
Combine with a Gopher game at Qualcomm and I am ready to go. Me saying that means, Gophers end up in Tampa. Outback bowl would be a nice game to, either one would be win win for the Gophers in my opinion.

You are so right. As for the Hotel del Coronado? Great hotel with an unbeatable location. Been there many times to eat and/or have a drink or two. $329 per night though? Maybe stay somewhere else and keep that money for "Scholarship" gifts instead. :drink:

I'm not staying at the Del but I will eat or drink there if they are in the Holiday bowl.

USC will play in San Francisco and ASU will get San Diego if the Pac12 or either of the schools has anything to say about it.

According to Sports radio here today, SF wants Stanford (and it's a lock), not USC. ASU is going to El Paso.

The selection show is 11:30 - 2:00 CT on ESPN tomorrow. Not sure what their order is.

Is it really during the day at that time? Seems strange they wouldn't do it in prime time and only compete with one NFL game.

I think Sid's on campus source was the Goldy statue. It had a Santa hat on and Sid knew it meant the Holiday Bowl.
